Hello,
With the energy buffers in the locomotives, turnouts could have no pukos, although there are 2 bad aspects: 1- It is not possible to send commands to the locomotive while it is over the turnout; 2- It is not compatible with locomotives that don't have the energy buffers.
So basically it is not something much practical, but from a point of view of eliminating the ugly turnout high pukos it could be interesting.
This came to my mind because the thing I less like in the 3rd rail/pukos system are the pukos in the turnouts. All else it is very good for home layouts.

Even if there were no danger for a short circuit between 3rd rail (PuKos) and turnout tongue, you'd still need to raise the slider mechanically to avoid it crashing into the tongue. So you could save just a few tenths of millimeters of PuKo height. |

Very true, Rudi.
Turnouts are tricky in 3 rail, and tough to get right. A lot of my turnout shorts come from the slider to the crossing rail. So you need to mechanically raise the slider to avoid those too.
It is just some sliders and sometimes adjusting then exactly to spec fixed that. Sometimes it does not. |

The issue of rise the slider I agree needs to be addressed, but if there are no pukos in the turnout, there will be no short circuit.

Nor truth! Energy backup is to restore power if there is no power on the tracks due to the dirt on the rail or and stud contacts. |

Hi Everybody, OF COURSE is entitled to his / her own opinion. Mine is that with Märklin sliders in good shape there are NO current interruptions
With a paint treatment of the points (painting the rail sides, adding a flash of airbrush paint), the PUKOS disappear (they are less obvious) Agreed there are sometimes current interruptions and there the energy capacitor does wonders and the loss of digital control is limited to the short period during pick-up issues. I find that if a loco is sluggish over a turnout, or the sound pauses, increasing the speed until it warms up helps. Not all are affected so I don't have a high concern. I can tell you that one's with all axle drives or a Roco with a buffer capacitor are not.

Still about the energy buffers but slightly of topic, what happens to the movement of a “bufferized” locomotive when the red button of the CS3 is pressed, I mean the power of the track is switched off?

Märklins new passenger cars lighting have buffer capacitor that hold about 5-8 seconds. With the locomotives decoder they can set in few seconds depends the size of the buffer capacitor. Normally it should be 1,5 seconds as standard set. |
