Hello Marklin community,
I'm new to this forum but have had a Marklin train for decades now. I would like to purchase more (new) Marklin HO scale products but have had some difficulty. I've tried to purchase through the Marklin online store but it doesn't seem to work (I can can go into greater detail on that but not now). I live in a remote area, so traveling to an actual model railroading store that sells Marklin is not an option. I would like to know what others recommend for online sources as well as any insight into ordering directly from Marklins online store. Thanks so much

There is a Marklin store in Stockton CA. AC Eurotrains. He does mail order.

A few others you might try that I know to be reputable are:
- AJCKids (ajckids.com) in Texas. New Marklin only. Great service and advice.
- Modellbahn Ott (modellbahnott.com) in PA. They sell new Marklin and broker the sales of older Marklin from purchased collections.
- Euro Rail Hobbies (eurorailhobbies.com) in Canada. They ship from Washington State to reduce shipping costs and have a lot of product.

I would add to the list RJFTrains as a Stateside supplier.

I second Euro Rail Hobbies in Summerland, BC Canada. Walter is great to deal with not to mention his prices are really good and you could also benefit from the US/CAD exchange rate which is getting better for those in the USA, unfortunately for us in Canada, well it's just getting worse.

I have gotten a lot of stuff from Walter Menzel at Euro Rail Hobbies and he is an absolutely top notch dealer. Unless it has changed since my last purchase Walter actually runs and tests every loco before shipping it. You don't get that kind of service very often anymore. ThumpUp

But over the last few years the fees for buying out of country and the incredible increases in shipping costs have forced me to look within the US. If you are anywhere but in the US Euro Rail is highly recommended.

I buy from several US sources but the great service and prices I get at AJCKids keeps me coming back to them.

Guy is very knowledge and they will get you anything from a whole train to any part you can find a number for.

They also have one of the best websites in the MRR business and always respond to your email questions.
Regards,
Jim

I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time.

I can't say enough good things about AJCKids.com. I live about 2 hours away from them and whether I buy products in-store or I have them delivered, their service is excellent. And their prices are usually hard to beat.

I have also had good experiences with Modellbahn Ott, although that was many years ago when I lived on the east coast.

You seem to be in a similar situation to me where there is no Maerklin dealer within 300 miles (or more).
Due to that, I have to rely on online orders. I have a few trusted dealers that I frequently do business with.
It depends on your interests. I do a lot of business with dealers in Switzerland for harder to find Swiss models and I have sources in Austria and Germany as well.
My collection is not only Maerklin, but also includes brands like Roco, LS Models, ACME and others as my focus is Switzerland and international trains that can be found on Swiss rails.

If you let me know your focus, I can perhaps find you a dealer or two that can help in that particular aspect.

My recommended dealers in North America:

Eurorailhobbies (BC Canada)
AJCKids (Texas)
Euromodeltrains (NJ)
RJF Trains (NY State)
Reynaulds (IL)
Helmut's Hobbies (VA)

I have heard about AC Eurotrains (CA), but have never ordered from them

My recommended dealers in Europe:
Memoba (Vienna Austria)
Huenerbein (Aachen Germany)
Eyro (Interlaken Switzerland)

Regards

Mike C

I now only buy from MSL in Germany but for you I am not sure about shipping costs. They hold good stocks and are reliable and with their extra discount system and VAT free to the UK for small orders have good prices.
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.

Somebody pays for shipping from Marklin De. to Marklin USA before our dealers recieve orders. I suspect it's built into the dealer cost invoices. If any US dealers order direct and bypass Marklin USA, then I don't know, or if that affects any warranty service. Orders from Canada to the US shipping is much higher than from domestic dealers.
Reynaulds in Illinois charges a flat shipping fee of $15 per order, but prices are a bit higher genearally.
AJC Kids charges the std. USPS or UPS ground shipping wirth orders up to $100 insured and over $100 insured for a nomnal fee. Same for Micro-Macro-Mundo in Miami Fla.
I've bouight quite a bit from them as well, but before new owners aquired it last year due to the fathers ailing health. I just havn't needed much.
I don't know why the son(s) didn't just keep it, but I think was on board yet as a cosnultant last I heard.

Eurorailhobbies, as mentioned in one of the above posts, ships US orders from an address in Washington State, so there are no international shipping costs.
That might apply to orders from other dealers in Canada. In any case, with the exchange rate, it might still be worthwhile to consider.

Then that is fairly recent for Eurorail Mike. I bought my 29000 MS 2 set from them in 2020, and the shipping was via Canada post to Washington State then to me. It was $55 US. Outrageous even then.

Yeah, I believe he ships from Blaine,Washington, but it still costs about twice what shipping from AJCKids costs. I bought items from him for years and even after I could save money buying within the US, because he is such a great dealer.

But one warranty return was my turning point. I paid for shipping to me, then shipping back to him and finally shipping back to me after the repair in Germany. That was all as it should be, but the total for shipping was approaching the cost of the item and I reluctantly moved on. He is such a great guy that when I told him was buying from AJCKids he said it was a good choice because Guy is such a good dealer! Walter is a true gentleman and the overall best dealer I have found.

Regards,
Jim

Walter moved the shop from the Vancouver suburbs (Langley) to Summerland in the BC Interior/Lower Mainland a few years ago. He makes USA shipments via USPS from Oroville, WA, about an hour's drive away from Summerland. He's still a complete pleasure to work with. I've found that 1) due to availability in Germany from manufacturers, and then 2) the shipping delays from Germany to No. America, it can take a while for any out-of-stock-but-backordered items to reach him; he then consolidates and ships from Oroville. His website is very detailed about availability and shipping so I've never felt surprised. Patience is key, but if I need something urgently and it's out of stock at Euro Rail then I need to search elsewhere. fwiw, he doesn't markup shipping costs but just passes them on.

Regarding AJCKids - I've purchased Märklin from them for between $15,000 and 20,000 over a period some years ago. Guy was a pleasure to work with and the items were well packed. Unfortunately the quality of Märklin went downhill and there started to be problems. Broken locomotives, problems with the finish and Zink Pest. The cost of returning the items became so high that it was a problem. When many of the models I had bought suffered from Zink Pest, AJCKids left me high and dry. I guess they didn't want to upset Märklin in Germany. I was told to find another dealer. Which I did. I would say AJCKids is a great dealer as long as you give them your money and you are happy with what they send you.
