Hello,

I currently use Train Controller 10 to run my layout and have come across an issue that I hope someone may have some experience with.

I like to run my trains run in the forward direction with the slider/pick up shoe in the front. For one particular locomotive that I'm in the midst of speed profiling in TC, TC has the train direction opposite. In other words, when I move the locomotive forward (slide in front) TC thinks is's going backwards while speed profiling. Is there any setting I am missing in TC? Is there a way to correct this, without going "under the hood" and rewiring the decoder, lights etc?

Hi Norbert,

You can change the direction in the lok-decoder. If it’s a DCC decoder this is controlled by bit 0 in CV 29. What type of controller ( Märklin etc) are you using to control your railroad?

Hello,
Although it is normal that the current pickup is at the front of the locomotive, this is not the case in all märklin locomotives, for example the diesel type 216 have the pickup shoe at the back, and there are more, the front of the locomotive is defined by the letter V or the number 1, and the back by the letter H or the number 2.
You also have to take into account the orientation of the train or locomotive.
It would be good to know what type of decoder your locomotive has, some decoders do not work well with the train controller, on the other hand, if your control panel is an Intellibox, the first generation marklin mfx decoders sometimes do not work well with the IB. And this is not a problem of the IB but of those decoders.

I am not a TC user but a Rocrail user, however, I am pretty sure that the mechanism is the same:
- the "forward" direction (the direction the loco will proceed when driven by TC) is NOT necessarily the forward direction of the loco (cabin 1 first, slider in front)
- in Rocrail, when you right-click on the loco you have multiple choices and one is "change the logical direction" which allows to change the preferred operation direction (e.g.: tender first, tender last) so you might want to look for a similar command on the loco in TC)

Thanks for your reply. It is a Marklin MFX decoder. I use the Marklin CS3+ for train control. I was curious if it's possible to change the direction via the decoder but didn't get that far into it yet. I get a little nervous when it come to fiddling with such things.

Thank you for your input! The loc has a Marklin MFX decoder, it's from 2018. I use the Marklin CS3+ for train control.

Jean, thanks for the input. I do know that when you right click on the locomotive there is an option to change the locomotive's orientation. I didn't try that yet because I assumed I needed to profile the train first, but maybe not. Hopefully it's that simple! I'll give that a try that tonight.

P.S. I was in Paris last month and visited AU Pullman. Great shop! I'll be in Paris again in January, any other good train shops that you could recommend? I'm a Marklin HO collector.

Au Pullmann is the largest model train shop in Paris.
There use to be much many more
In rue de Douai Paris 9th district, you have 4 shops about trains and other toys
They are all located close to each other:
  • Paris Modélisme 51 rue de Douai very detailled new miniature trains, Märklin, REE and much 2 rails stuff
  • Deco Atelier TET 48-50 rue de Douai 2nd hand Märklin and other brands in HO and larger scales
  • Trans Europ Trains 40B rue de Douai 2 nd hand HO and smaller scales

Truth is that Miniature Trains don't sell as good as before and, thanks to the EU, we can buy directly in Germany and receive stuff within 3 to 5 days with a shipment cost of 3.50 € with much better prices (typically minus 30%)

Note: in the old days We use to visit train shops in Cologne (Köln) Vedes Schidergasse, Bonn (PuppenKöning) which were HUGE (multiple floors of trains) but not anymore

P.S. I was able to change the direction via the decoder on the Locomotive. We are all going in the correct direction now!
