Is that the only Maerklin you have?

I am not familiar with the Infrared controller that came with that set. The power adapter has to be plugged into the track section with the IR receiver. The controller itself requires batteries in order to function.
According to the instructions, it takes 2 Triple A (AAA) size batteries.

You may need to replace the batteries that are currently in the remote control.

That would be the first test. Please let us know if it works once done.

According to the Maerklin website the engine that comes with the 29722 set is mfx. Are you trying to use the controller with a different locomotive which is dcc?

The loco may be mfx, but the starter set controller is MM only - no mfx, no DCC.

The controller has 4 different addresses.

Grandcrappy, have you tried all 4 addresses?

Tom

And then if the locomotive did not come with the set is the decoder at one of the four addresses that the IR controller can communicate with?
