I have just acquired a 39662. It runs well even on R1 track and through turnouts. But, only going forward. When reversing the dual ( run and display) coupler contracts and the tender and loco will foul each other. Does anyone have a good way of keeping the coupler in the extended length short of gluing the adjustment slider in the extended position?

Thank you for your reply. I believe that I have extended the coupler to run position. However, the click did not seem as pronounced as I fully extended it as it has on other Marklin locomotives. I will check when I get home.
As for the spring, I am not sure what you are saying. Is it to check that the spring is present? Please explain the significance of the spring.

I have that same loco and I also have many hidden tracks with R1 curves and R1 curved turnouts
Today it runs fantastic but after a few checks

Loco Checks
- the coupling between tender and loco is supposed to be in the WIDE position (Which I did) But on my loco and some others, the latch is weak resulting - in reverse - by getting the tender too close to the loco and provoking derailments. Solution? A bit of NOCH Hin & Weg Kleber to force the coupling in the right position. Result: It runs excellent even when pushing back a long set of passenger cars, you can still store the loco in its packing and remove the temporary glue anytime without damaging the beautiful model.
- the spring on the trailing bogie is a bit weak so I adjusted A LITTLE BIT yo increase the pressure on rails

Layout checvks
- no "S"-shaped tracks using R1, even when combined with R2. Solution? Insert a short straight between the curves. A "S" shape is allowed when using R2 or bigger.
- no grade UP or DOWN at entry of a curve

That loco goes now on my Rocrail-controlled layout to couple / uncouple a consist, manoeuver in the steam depot, go on the Turntable 7286. Only restriction The Fleischmann shed is a bit too short so the doors must remain open (Sorry I have no video on Youtube of my layout with this loco.

Yes, yes, yes. When you extender the coupler to run position it does not lock easily causing derailment on backwards run as the tender comes to close to the loco. When trying to lock it the force you have to apply seems to big IMHO. I was scared of breaking the coupler, so i took the tender Cover out and help me with a pair of plyers. Works fine and never had troubles again.
