Hi,

I have a 3153 which is a Delta locomotive.
I'm building a new layout, all digital of course and converting the locomotives one by one.

For right now however, my question is this:
Can I replace the existing motor (which is using 3 poles, ground, forward, backward) with a new 60941 motor (2 poles that get inverted) and keep the existing Delta decoder?
If the answer is yes, then how should I wire this up, with diodes maybe?

Hi Nick

Can I replace the existing motor with an HDLA, 5 pole DC motor?
On my Koll's Catalog it says that the BR 120 of the German DB in Beige Red has been manufactured in 1980-1984 and one shot in 1987.
So early models may still have the SFCM motor (Small Flat Collector Motor). The motor can be recognized by its round-section brushes (1 copper and 1 graphite) In this case the 60943 motor can be used
Later models using a DCM (Drum Collector motor) with 2 graphite brushes with square section. In this case the 60941 motor can be used.

Can I keep the existing Delta decoder?
Straight out of the box, no you can't and besides, the performance could be worse than with the original motor.

Another interesting possibility
- Keep the motor and use a 60906 decoder (MFX, DCC, MM2). It has 2 additional outputs additional to headlights outputs (x2). It has everything except load regulation.

Cheers
Jean

The original motor IS my problem.

I'll get myself another decoder as well then.

Thank you

3153 has always had the DCM and no factory built in Delta. Never the SFCM. If you like to keep the original performance use 60906; otherwise change to 5 pole motor.
Best regards
Martin
