Hello all,

I have three locomotives from older starter sets that have decoders with 701.22B chips on them. What I was wondering about is can you change the Vmax, Acceleration, deceleration settings by writing to the correct CV or must you use the trim pots on the decoder? I know that you must change the address with the dip switches, but these other settings are not clear.

Also, just wondering how may speed steps these decoders handle 14,27 or 28?

Thanks

The 701.22B chip does not support on-track programming. So the only way to change Vmax and Acc/dec delay is to use the trim pots.

It should be noted that the trim pot settings affect the behaviour in AC mode as well, contrary to how it works with the on-track programmable decoder versions.

The 701.22B supports 27 speed steps, the traditional Märklin way. This means that the decoder goes through odd speed steps with increasing speed, and even speed steps with decreasing speed. There are only 14 different speed steps available in the command set.

Thanks Perz,

There was no one place for this information, and it got very confusing trying to piece it together. However the answer was what I thought.
