Hi all, About 10 years ago Märklin presented the only SZD locomotive and cars made by them. It was a class 52, later converted to the Soviet class TE 3915. A beautiful and rare model, that took me over 9 years to find and buy. Now is on my collection with the corresponding set of cars 47897 and 47899. Two things I like most from the set, first the white rings on the wheels of the locomotive and of course the red star, and the other is the cars without buffers, I think Märklin took some American models for this set of cars, I believe is because the Soviets system of coupling is similar to the American one where the coupling also works as a buffer, I am rigth?. Here are some pictures:

great loco, eduard71 being that little bit diffrent is what makes them so special in my opinion. I have ridden behind the 1:1 scale one and the model does not fail to impress. as you can see, this loco has the conventional screw couplings and buffers. this might have something to do with russia having a diffrent gauge to the rest of europe. the engine ended up in Ukraine after the war and then served as a strategic military reserve until being spreserved. after being sold various times, it ended up in the care of STAR in Holland where I took the picture. regards, kariosls

I love that loco too! I've got 37159, plus the wagon sets 47897 and 47899. The loco is a smooth runner. I assume it is the same as the other BR-52's from that era (of Märklin manufacture, that is). I want to put a Loksound mfx into it, but I need to think a bit about how to mount the speaker. Model Russian Railways - which currently does not exist [:I], but may be back eventually - claimed that the Märklin wagon sets were just American wagons with Cyrillic lettering. They implied that this was just fakery on Märklin's part -- not that the SZD ever used US rolling stock. Doesn't bother me much -- I'm not a purist, and they look suitably exotic to me BTW, look at Red Star Railways (ignore the overtly political opening screen [:(]). His "PassazhirRSR" coaches look rather nice! I wonder if a TE 3915 ever pulled a passenger train? Why not, I say!!! |

Hi, this is indeed a nice loco and car set. And that's the reason why I got myself two car sets of each car set. And what else should I tell you, I got the 34159 Delta Version as this Loco has a different painting on the driver house. Sorry can't place any pic of that at present, due to the fact that I'm in Miami and not at home in Berlin. This link goes to a pic in an ebay auction which ran out already http://i22.ebayimg.com/02/i/001/33/ba/e660_1.JPG |

Just looking at those Russian coaches, I know Bachmann make Chinese stock in HO. Chinese railways took a lot of Russian designs, but I don't know how different they are or if you could start with the Bachmann models and produce some Russian ones. Worth a look anyway. |

Hi again, if anyone is interested in Russian Railway Models, have a look at www.redstarrailways.com/models.aspI just had a very interesting mail correspondence with Mr. White and ordered one of the Russian locomotives he produces handmade himself. I'm so excited that I hardly can wait to hold it in my hands. |

Modelrailroader magazine did a piece on his layout a few years back. It's quite nice.
