Hallo Dreileiters,
I have a question if any of you have more information about this Bavarian layout ?

UserPostedImage

I'm especially interested in track plan / hidden stagging yard underneath! It’s very tempting indeed and having plans available will save me a lot of drafting & erasing. [ I do not use computer generated programs- I am old school pencil & paper] so can anyone help ???
Regards,
Märklineisenbahn

Well, I think that it is a simple folded dog bone (?) design with no hidden staging underneath unless you send a hidden spur off under the castle on the lower loop. However, I am as always open to correction. Cool

Also, if we are talking HO, this is still fairly large layout, although it seems compressed.

Would be a good way to use all those 24130 curves from start sets though ... BigGrin

Alsterstreek is well versed in doing this ... Woot

Could you indicate where you found this image? That would ease the search. As you mention "Bavarian", it seems as if you have some more information, since such a scenery could be anywhere in the "southern hemisphere" of Germany. The drawing looks like a work by one of the "classic" German MRR magazine illustrators. Unfortunately, I cannot decipher the initials on the right side of the drawing.

These "classic" illustrations tend to be overoptimistic, so I would not expect too much regarding hidden staging.

Maybe this Stummiforum track plan thread on the compact multi-level KAKTUS (= "Klein-Anlagen-Konzept-Testbetrieb-Und-Spielgeeignet" = small-layout-concept-test-operation-and-play-suitable) concept might be of interest in this context - please scroll down for finding all illustrations:

When I first saw it i thought it was done by one of the 'classic' English magazine illustrators. There is one very prolific guy who has many books and magazine plans with similar style of drawing that I initially assumed had drawn it.

I would also be interested to find out where the illustration came from.

Here it is:

http://www.guidetozscale.com/html/the_dream.html

Near the bottom of the page

"In 2004, Trix would revisit the track plan book with a new edition, their No. 69012. In so many ways, it shows the progress of 25 years. Here, a round layout, measuring 110 cm (44”) in diameter"

Nice Barkhoff study, which in the end it turns out to be a twisted oval without hidden staging.

P.S,: Bavaria finds no mention.
P.P.S.: Moreover, the publication is a good source of inspiration.

Märklineisenbahn,

You are most welcome! BigGrin Always glad to help where I can! Cool We are definitely "Kindred Spirits" ThumpUp

Alsterstreek,

It certainly is a tribute to Barkhoff's talent! Love

P. S. I was thinking...one could possibly put a point in at "A" in that wee tunnel on the track plan and run it down to a hidden holding yard following the same rise angle as the outside track of the oval (somewhat "helix-like"), but then you are tied to mostly curved lines for holding trains, although that is a minor hindrance.
