The first of the 2022 club films are available online, on the insider club pages. (A year with Märklin Part 1 2022, and a bonus film)

Hi all,
Interesting article on page 19 of the German edition of 3/2022 insider news, M is going to start using the 38 XXX model numbers again, previously reserved for Hamo models. It will be interesting to see what the first 38 XXX model will be? They say they are running out of numbers in the 39 XXX and 37 XXX model numbers.

My Trix Proficlub 05/2022 arrived this morning.
Flyer for Albatross and order form for Marklin/Trix calendar at reduced price.
Insider magazine center fold has a rather nice CAD cross section of the Br06 smoke unit, along with photos and an explanation of how it works. I assume the same unit is used in the Albatross.

Yes, that CAD cross section of the Br06 smoke unit, was nice. But the one used in the Albatros is slightly different and it has a different part number. So far all the dynamic smoke generators have been slightly different. so, unfortunately, is not possible to have a single spare one that fits several locomotives. And I noticed they are also increasing the insider membership price, but since it was 13 years since the last time it was kind of expected.

The accompanying letter warns of a forthcoming Insider Membership fee increase. Hm, well I guess I'm on target for this year to be my last on the inside. Its more a collector focused club, or at least has little alignment to my era of modeling (IV), of late. Even the free cars are getting less applicable to me; to pay more for 6 issues of a magazine and club newsletter is not adding up. I just went through my prior 5 years of the Maerklin magazine and insider magazine, cutting out / clipping and saving those articles I want to preserver for reference going forward, and it resulted in a massive pile of paper several feet high, weighing what 20+ kg, being reduced to what easily fits in a thin folder, about what one issue of the insider magazine is. A lot of paper went to the recycler. For collectors and those interested in all of those layout sample probably a great thing. But who knows, I'll probably hem and haw in January again, and maybe end up paying the what $120/yr in the end again.. though there is a bigger chance I'll pull the plug this year. |

Like you, Thomas, I have already pulled the plug on he Märklin Insider Club membership from this year !
The main reason has been that in order to receive the "free car", the "catalogues and the magazines, I have to shell out a helluva lot of money in customs duties, taxes and postage. It is crazy ! Even the Euro 5/- coupon that I used to receive on my birthday every year cost more than Euro 5/- ! It didn't make any sense whatsoever.
No idea what to do with the paperwork that has piled up since 1996.
So, bye-bye Märklin Insider Club !

My 06/22 pack arrived this morning, also rain damaged.
It would be great if they could use robust or plasticized envelopes. Half of mine arrived rain damaged this year.
My replacement 05/22 pack also arrived today, but it's in French...

Just received my Insider Club mailing 6/2022 today. Despite wet and windy weather here on the south coast of the UK, envelope was bone dry and in perfect condition. Good old Royal Mail!

As above, mine has arrived also. I shall order the Z cl44 as it has a front coupler - very important to me!
The paperwork used to come in plasticised envelopes which protected the magazine, now they are in paper ones which usually arrive torn with the contents hanging out. No wonder those for the antipodes arrive wet and damaged but all in the cause of ecology I suppose. ChrisG

Mine was delivered today, but I notice that it is post marked 22/2/2023 at 23:39 - I am told that is when it was hurled through the sorting machine in Sydney. I no longer live in a big city, so I have to expect to see mine a day or two later. The good news is that Marklin managed to use my new address without any problems. So, they do act on the changes that you type in on the Insider Club website. |

Gosh, I need a push to decide wether to renew my club membership! I do love the content, the hard copy and videos are wonderfully done, the club car is a nice bonus. But in approximately 5 years I've done this the mailings always arrive so late here in the states, even if I'm not going to enter the contests getting my magazines past the expiration dates and long after Europe is a disappointment. Plus (and again here in the US) most Insider models are available on the "open" market, from all sorts of vendors, long before I can get them through my Marklin dealer. The 88150 double diesel being the most recent example. Those still haven't arrived even though I could have bought one last year for Christmas. When I can't get an Insider loco because I am an Insider that is a problem! LOL I wish there was some way I could make my point to Marklin without cancelling my subscription. That is a kind of "cutting off your own nose to spite your face" situation. It certainly isn't because I am in a great hurry though. I just feel like an Outsider ;)

My package 5 arrived yesterday. This year (I don't know about last year) the paper of the packaging is less resistant as it frequently arrives damaged.
The postage people clearly don't care much but with few years ago packaging there was no damaging.

the 2023 Insider Club films are available online, on the club pages One curious little thing is that the latest English film has slightly better video quality vs the German, as it has a slightly higher bitrate, otherwise, they are identical. I downloaded both the German and English versions and combined them into one video file with both the German and English soundtrack. (without reencoding)

We have a special delivery canoe that brings the magazine out here much faster than everyone else.
Even our friends in the West Island get a tad annoyed that our magazines arrive before their's do!
