I don't have problems when Americans call their Railway: Railroad but lately here in Australia they start calling the Railway: Railroad and this was never the case before, so TV presenters here in Australia start calling the railway Railroad and I don't like it at all.

Which is fine, so are we model railroaders, or model railwayers?

Each country have their own words and we usually don't change this, we don't use the word closet, trunk or gas station, we call it model railway enthusiasts, in the English language there is no such word as model railwayers

Yes! You can say railway modelers, or model railroaders, as we do here. Amtrak, Chessie, BN, Norfolk Southern, Southern, and Union Pacific are as adverstized as a railroad corporations.BigGrin Just as Duetsche Bahn is! Bahn means road.

Railway is the English (England) term
German: Eisenbahn (Steel Path?)
French: Chemin de Fer (Iron Road)
Railroad is more common in North America (USA, Canada)
Spain: Ferrocarriles (Iron roads)
Italian: Ferrovia/Ferrovie (Iron path)

Whether you call it a railway (railed path) or a railroad, you are talking about the same thing, so it should not be a big issue and no term is more correct than any other.

I guess that railway was more common as at the inception of the rail era, most goods and traffic was by barge on canals, whereas in the USA, this might have been the case on the Hudson/Erie route, but elsewhere, goods and traffic was by train and it was an extension of roads in the original colonies where goods travelled by horse drawn carts.

As American companies invest in railways in Australia, the term railroad will probably become more commonplace. Corporations like Genesee (G&W) have been investing in short lines and rail companies (roads or ways) around the world for a few decades now.

One Rail Australia is an Australian rail freight operator company. Founded by United States company Genesee & Wyoming in 1997 as Australian Southern Railroad, and later renamed Genesee & Wyoming Australia, it was renamed One Rail Australia in February 2020. Blame them.
