Hello everyone, hope all is well.

Per a z forum in Germany, it seems Marklin has acknowledged a price increase will be implemented on May 1st. An average of a 6% increase from current MSRP is estimated.

Ouch. We all knew that understandable increases were coming. I guess that 2021 planned release of the new red railbus set is going to cost me a bit more. If only that item would have stayed on schedule. I remember when I could pickup a railbus trailer for about $25.00. Shipping was about $4.00 and internet purchases were not always taxed. I would have appreciated the “good old days” more if only I wouLd have realized things would not stay the same forever. Oh well, what can you do. A tank of gas is not what it was either.

Here is a link to the forum, hopefully in English. If not, most browsers will translate for you.

I guess it shouldn't be much of a surprise given most countries are experiencing inflation of around 6%.

Unfortunately there are price increases on everything, often it's difficult to even get a product. Just look at getting a new car, price increase & up to 12 months waiting list. In Australia you could be waiting 18 months for an off-road caravan. European built caravans will disintegrate on our corrugated roads. Fortunately we are self contained in a car which has its own advantages.

Anyway, Wifey will have to make sacrifices as well, probably you will save even more funds if you manage the situation carefully!

Price adjustment 2022

We were able to keep our prices almost constant for two years and thus support the specialist trade in times of the corona pandemic. The price increases, especially for electronic components, but also for raw materials such as steel, zinc and brass as well as for cardboard / packaging, transport and energy, amount to an average of 12% of the previous acquisition prices. We cannot avoid passing on part of these high cost increases by increasing the prices of our products.
In order to take into account the positive development in the model railway industry in recent years, including the many newcomers and returnees, we will limit the price increase to half of the actual cost increases. The club models for anniversaries will also be adjusted accordingly.
We will make the price adjustment of an average of 6% on the list and RRP price on May 1st.

That 612 km journey to a petrol station in Timber Creek is almost the same as going from Frankfurt (S. Germany) to the Danish border at Flensburg.
That is easy by train in Germany, but I guess there is no train to Timber Creek.

As Dusan (DV) says the Märklin price increase is not a rumour, it will happen on 1 May 2022.

No. I factor in 14L/100km for these corrugated dirt roads plus a safety margin & carry plenty of water.

Much further west the mining companies, BHP, Rio Tinto, FMG have been buying battery powered locomotives to pull their 38,000 tonne iron ore trains which are about 240 cars long.

Back onto price increase, it seems to be everything is going up so Wifey will have to stop buying shoes etc!

Frankly I wouldn't mind a price increase if they could keep their production run and ordering window more reasonable. I wouldn't paying 10% more at all for a new Kittel if Marklin was reasonable about the numbers they produced and /or having multiple runs. Now I find that the prices are close to 50% or more on eBay. It is really frustrating having such a narrow window to decide and order.

Now I know why I still haven't got my 88378 (pre-ordered May 11, 2021) and 88678 (pre-ordered October 2, 2021) until now...they just unwilling to miss any single opportunity to slap that new price to every pre 2022 soon-to-be released items 🤔
