342J international dining car

Marklin catalogues identify this wagon as blue. However the one that I have is green, from my colour perception, with a greyish green roof. The post war versions are blue, generally with cast bogies that fall apart. Mine has pressed steel bogies and bugle couplers, although there is some sign that it might have had claw couplers at one time. Any ideas?

Hi Mike,

Your image is not displaying, perhaps check the link or upload again.

To your actual question, there has been discussion elsewhere that might explain this. Some of those coaches were coated with a clear lacquer after painting and over time this becomes discoloured, giving results much as you describe.

It appears to more influenced by exposure to UV light. As I understand it, only areas that are exposed change colour. Have you removed the roof and checked the paint in areas that would normally be covered?

Also folded over tabs, insides of the end-vestibules etc?

Some images of those areas would be helpful

Cheers

Thanks for your reply, Cookee. I have tried twice to upload the image without success. I checked under the roof and the colour is the same. So the mystery continues.

That image came through ok.

Check this thread..... - https://www.altemodellba...in-J-Identifikation.html (you will need to be a member to read that thread - some are members only)

It discusses exactly the model and problem you describe
