Dear All

I have recently bought a L.S. Models 10821 SNCF CC 6503 and it is beautifulCool

10821.jpg

I placed the loco on my registration track and my CS3 found the loco no prpblem and registered it as an MFX.

It ran well. I then shut down my layout.

Yesterday I turned on the layout and selected the SNCF loco, which did not respond at all, no lights, no movement nothing.
I deleted it from my CS3 and then registered it again and it ran fine.

I have now done this operation 2 or 3 times with the same result.

So, has anybody had this kind of proble before ?
Is the problem with the loco or my CS3 (which registrers other loco with no problem) ?

Tim

I had similar problems with a Central Station and Märklin locos.

Disabling mfx in the Central Station resolved the issue. Now I use reliable protocols like DCC and MM to control the locos.

In your case this could be an issue with the firmware of the decoder in that particular loco. Which type is it?
Upgrading the loco decoder and/or the CS3 could resolve the issue.

Tom

Hi Tim
MFX registration may be sometimes not 100% complete (especially when your loco in on a large layout with many other locos) so my advice, would be to delete your loco on the CS3 while the loco in NOT connected.
Then you could have your loco MFX-registered on the programming track. Then you are in business.
Cheers
Jean

Are you saving the CS3 before shutting down? Whenever I register a new loco on my CS3 I always do a save to both the CS3 memory and a memory stick before shutting down.

Hi
Saving the CS3 periodically and ALWAYS before an update is a must.
Observing tho power-down procedure (pushing the STOP bar for 10 s and wait until the screen is black) is also highly recommended).
Cheers

Hi All

After repeated attempts and trying to install as a DCC, all to no avail. I have decided to return the loco to Suter Meggen as in my opinion the decoder is defective.

I have also decided to request the upgrade he decoder to include sound as mentioned in the documentation.

will keep you posted

Hi All

My loco returned yesterdayBigGrin . It had been sent onto the manufacturer, LS Models for repair.

Their diagnosis was everything checked out.

I reinstalled it into my CS3 yesterday, and low and behold it now works and remembers its settings when I power off the layout. Confused
The CS3 still says its an MFX decoder although I was told its a DCC Confused

I wonder what they did ????

I do the opposite to H0. Whenever I can, I switch off the DCC protocol in the decoder and in the controller. Of course, turning the protocol off in the controller assumes that you have no DCC locos or other devices. I only have two DCC devices, one is a dead BR01 loco and the other is a Roco Snow plow with the sticking rotation problem. When I fix both of them, I plan to replace the original decoders. I guess I have just been lucky or my layout is so small that I do not have any of the reported mFx problems.

Hi Tim
My cristal ball is a good as yours. LS models 10821 comes with a Motorola decoder and the most probable is they replaced it. The loco description does not mention MFX capability although things are changing and the new generation could be MFX-capable.

On the CS3 when you call locos you have a screen like thiscs3_Loco_Edit.png
Notice the symbol on the left (just above the loco icon) is an MFX+ while the symbol on the right is a normal MFX loco. So if your loco shows any of these 2 symbols, it is an MFX loco.
But being a Motorola loco (called sometimes MM2) does not prevent the CS3 to remember it once you have registered all its parameters.
Beautiful loco by the way
Jean
