I like to thank Peter Clapcott for providing a website link (Proops Brothers Ltd. UK) regarding micro drills, the drill set has arrived today with 19 micro drills at a total cost of £ 6.50, (order date 9th Sept.2021) free delivery to Australia, its cheaper than buying it from J-car.

Hi John, from my experience with these drill bits, I would have ordered at least 2 sets - they break so easily.
Regards Greg |
Take it easy . . . . or any other way you can get it !!!!

Regards Greg Greg, seeing it is free postage I always can do this when they start breaking, they are very tiny and I assume some of them are not bigger than 0.5mm but I wouldn't use them with a drill but rather drill them by hand., I had some from China a while ago and they did break easly, the ones from J-car were of a better quality and what I've seen the ones from the UK they look ok. Yep. They are only meant for hand-drilling softer materials. Nothing harder than Aluminium in my opinion. They are more suited to plastic materials. |

Do you use a pin vise or a mini hand drill to use these micro drill bits ?
Cheers, Ranjit |

Hi John...
Is it the "20 Piece Micro Metric HSS Twist Drills & 4 Way Pin Vice (M0278)" that you purchased from Proops Bros. for £ 6.50 ?
Cheers, Ranjit |

The 1/8" shaft drill bits for a Dremel etc are really good for extra precision. Don't buy the Chinese rubbish. If tapping very small threads, start with a taper tap, even if it's only through a sheet, use the correct cutting fluid for the metal, I can't stress enough that enough. Very small threads are an absolute pain in the neck, you need to take it very slowly and unwind tap every eighth of a turn, even a sixteenth, and best to unwind and clear the hole completely and reapply cutting fluid.. If you are not in the mood for the task, leave it for another day as you will break the tap in the hole and then your problems start!

Must be something to do with the letter 'R'..... I also happily helped deplete stock After seeing John’s post #1 I bought two (different) sets from the brothers Proop for a good price. Postage at the grand cost of two dollars and arrived quite timely. I am very pleased with them. Thanks again to John (and Peter) PJ

For those looking for durable micro-drill bits: I suggest searching for the type that are designed for drilling circuit boards. Use in a small drill press at LOW RPMs
