I have Marklin car # 46086-04 which is part of the set 46086. One of the wheels keeps falling out but is apparently the correct size as it runs well on the track. So apparently the sockets are slightly too far apart. Has anyone successfully squeezed those sockets closer together to solve the issue? I am trying just clamps right now with the wheels in place. Should I apply a little heat to soften the plastic?

If the bogie sideframe is quite flexible, this can happen. I clean all the oil from the axle and clean the frame socket where it sets in. Then try bending the sideframe inward. Not much else can be done.

Hi All,

I use very hot water to soften the bogie which allows you to bend it, once it has cooled down it will hold the new position.

A good idea so as the bogie can be removed easily. Some have pickup shoes, and wiring, or axle contacts.
Is the plastic going to retain the new taughtness upon cooling?

A clamp with the wheel in place seems to have solved the problem. There is no bogie just wheels and the socket was slightly splayed out. No heat was necessary yet but I planned to use a heat gun if the clamp did not work. The hot water is a good idea but not sure if that might have led to rust. Hoping the plastic memory was changed by the clamp.
Thanks for the replies.

A heat gun is too fierce to use on this, the plastic will just melt.

The hot water trick is the way to go, but do it without the wheel in place. Use something such as a small cable tie to pull the bearing points in about the right amount, then duck the lot in some very hot water for about half a minute, pull it out and leave to cool. After it has cooled for a half hour or so take the cable tie off and fit the wheels.
