Hello all, Another model from Märklin is presenting problems with Zinkpest. This time is the 37501. I have used this model only a few times and today I decided to run it and it was stock, one side of the driving set was not runnig. I decided to make an inspection and after reviewing I saw the problem it is Zinkpest in one of the bogies of the motorized car, the other bogie is perfect with no sign of zinkpest. Actually the boige came apart when I inspected it. This will be my third model with the problem. Until now I have had this issue with: 36805 Koff green 37521 Seethal brown 37501 DB 420 I am attaching some photos for your reference and I have sent an mail to Markln Service. Also, I did some research in the Stummi Forum and the problem has been discussed since 2019 when some members also found their models damaged. Some of the members in the Stummi have indicated that Marklin has repair the train for around 105 euros plus shipment. I would be more interested in getting the replacement bogie but in the parts databese of Marklin the it is not available. I will let you know what Marklin responses.

Hmmm.. I expect that the rear and front bogies were made of the same stuff - I would be trying to get both bogies replaced by Marklin.. |

If it is zinkpest I would expect Märklin to replace it at no cost. It only occurs because of a poor quality casting.

Marklin will not warranty anything made under Kingsbridge Capital holding ownership. The first two above itmes were. An expection may possibly be an insider model.

Bravo Märklin keep on the good work. Another case of "Zinkpest". Bad for Märklin's reputation if they cannot offer an affordable remedy to affected customers. Even if that model was made before insolvency and under different management/ownership. |

Ethically, yes Tom! The same applies for General Motors, etc. Whom failed to warrant defective vehicles or components in vehicles produced before the 2009 bankruptcy, claiming that legally that was a different company.

In my opinion Märklin HAS to to take action on this problem. It´s a very modern model. To hide behind the excuse that it was done while under another ownership does not really hold water... First off, most buyers will go for the BRAND, regardless of the actual owner. He might not even be aware of who was the owner at the moment of production. Secondly, the new owners bought the company because they see value in the know-how and name, so are morally and logically obliged to defend that standpoint, if they want to keep their investment. Actually, this model is discussed on Stummis since 2017. But even if the model of the OP is no longer produced and spare parts seems unavailable, they DID issue a new model in 2019; M37508 | T22655 -maybe your needed part can still be obtained under another ref.? Think they are reading? Do they care? Both my Trostberg Koff, and first issue SBB DE 6/6 Seetal have it.

Quite right, it has been our collective purchases that keep our favourite company afloat and whilst the product in question may be out of warranty, it would be nice to think they would look after the owners of these models given the nature of the defect.
