The new XXL-ICE of DB is a pretty impressive ”animal”, with a capacity of more than 900 passengers in 13 cars, and a length of 374 meters… Would probably be a real challenge for a majority of our layout platforms? Blushing BigGrin

The Märklin H0 model will be 1:95.5, so a few inches missing compared to scale length, but still impressive.
The ICE 1 with 358 is not much shorter.
ICE 2 and ICE 3 often operate in double traction. And each of those double tractions is longer than the XXL-ICE. Longer and faster.

The "regular" ICE 4 (as per upcoming model by Märklin) has twelve cars, right? So the XXL-ICE will one more at 13 cars?

So should I have pre-ordered five Märklin 43725 instead of four? BigGrin

The ICE 2 I traveled on in 2019 from Stuttgart to Hamburg via Hanover had 12 or 13 cars so maybe the XXL-ICE is replacing those?

At any rate, like Herman I have ordered all of the ICE 4 cars but that's only 9 cars in total.

I think you forgot to order the 3 car extension set, 43724:

39714 is 5 cars
43724 is 3 car add on
43725 times 4 (different decals included)

That makes a 12 car train.

The ICE 2 should always have 7 coaches and 1 powered car - but often they are used in double traction.

The passenger capacity of the XXL-ICE exceeds that of earlier ICEs. They are hoping for growing passenger figures. Cool
Slower trains with less room and less comfort - sounds as if growing passenger figures are guaranteed. Wink

It's a nice train, but at 5 feet long with the 5 units, and a hefty price. I guess had I not had a 5 unit ICE 3, I'd consider it. Mine doesn't have sound, but is the first issue with 2 add on cars.

I don't recall there being any double traction trains but I remember the train being quite long - certainly way past the covered part of the platform at Stuttgart.

Unfortunately the photos I have of the train don't show its complete length and memory can play tricks.

The ICE2 consists of only one locomotive (Class 402), six passenger cars (Classes 805 to 807) and a cab control car (Class 808) - that's 205m long.

However these are often (usually?) operated with two of these "half trains" connected together, total 410m long, which is possibly what you rode to Stuttgart. You can see it in this photo if you look carefully...

ICE2_Hilpodrom.jpeg

These are operated with the power units at either end, and the cab control cars coupled together in the middle. The whole arrangement is longer than the XXL-ICE, however passengers don't alight from the locomotives, so one or both of them can hang past the ends of the platform, I guess.
