My budget for this year has taken a hit due to my clumsiness and hence buying a CS3 to replace my CS2 - albeit very satisfied with my purchase. So I thought I must have the new CS3 book but am too mean to pay full DHL postage on such a small sum. So I considered buying a replacement for one of my earlier clumsiness's - a Kof. But now I am confused. 36346 ( in this years new items) is now in stock and can be had for a very good price. I thought 36345 was to follow. 346 is very basic albeit that the M website I believe wrongly states it has telex couplers in one paragraph but not in the digital spec or manual. I could not find 345 and have never seen it on sale but finally found it banished to "no longer available". It had puzzled me how they would fit all those functions (sound etc) into such a tiny body and what the clumsy oof would do when something went wrong. Can any one shed a light on this model?

Microchips get smaller all the while. I bet they used a small phonellic speaker in the cab, or the smallest sugar cube one. I have an older koff, the green Trostberg. It had seized up due to zinc pest. I think this was one if the first from China. I think you can rest easy that quality is better now. Check some shops online for the discontinued model. You can have the book shipped along with it same shipping fee. AJC Kids, and Micro Macro Mundo have large inventories.

Hi Rwill
The 36346 has indeed no Telex couplers. It is quite identical to a 26340 (2012 set with a Köf loco) that has the telex couplings (no Sound). It works like a charm

Now there are Märklin Köfs that have both the Telex couplings and sound like the 36345 (new 2020 item) . There are some 36345 with Telex on ebay.de for 285Euros and up

Cheers
Jean

Thanks JohnJean,

The model I need to replace was a 36340 which as you say has telex couplers albeit those rather chunky ones that look a bit odd and clumsy on the kof. I was hoping to try the new style telex which were to be a feature of the 36345 - still puzzled it shows in none of the "usual" European dealers. I am now suspicious that it arrived from China and the first few showed problems and it was withdrawn. I am never sure why I have an obsession with telex couplers my first Marklin layout was a freight "shunting frame" and I had both uncoupler tracks and a couple of telex equipped locos. The locos can only deal with the first wagon so why bother?
