Oh, I havn't been an insider member since before the big crash and recession. I still have all the isuues, plus many of the Magazines. Prehistoric digital stuff by now, but pkenty of members nice layouts and photos. The last presentation book catalogue I have is also from 2006, but they date back to 1984. My first dealer gave me those through 1995 when they retired. That is not an inexpensive thing anymore to publish full color catalogues, but it give professional photographers work. I admire that. Many are online PDF files now exclusively. I recieved a very nice Roco catalogue last week with an order via post. A Faller new items brochure also with my 5 bay central fire station kit.

Got mine a week ago. Find it odd, if that is the right word, to receive the package and see a number of things listed in the mag with due dates in February. Why bother include them if know aren't going to get out until after due date. Something not right. I'm still pretty new with this and maybe expectations are a bit high. (Just joined in Jan and got my starter set in Jan.) Sort of wondering if my $100 membership is worthwhile. Maybe just not as hard core about Marklin as could be. P.S. Starter set still doesn't function properly even after sending out (twice) for service. For now just living with it.

I agree with you and find it unacceptable that we receive these mailings essentially out of date. That is really not acceptable. It is also not "due to COVID". Is it due to the fact that Marklin doesn't care? Maybe not, they did add an extension to some cut off dates this year. I haven't been in the club long enough to know if it will always be like this. That said, I enjoy the member benefits, videos, hard copy, and free car. I like the club. And the late postings do not keep us in the states from participating. Simply go online once a month or so and see what's cooking. Forms can be accessed and as a club member you will have a specific dealer that can take care of you if you want to reserve a club model or make a reservation. Our US dealers like Z Scale Hobo and Marklin USA have gone out of their way to make sure I didn't miss out on anything. I did miss the cutoff date to be entered in the free model raffle for early Club model orders. So I need to practice what I preach. That was a long shot anyway. It is also a shame that your starter set is not working properly! It would be so much better if your first experience was a positive one. As a relatively new train modeler I have been surprised by how much there is to this hobby. It can be challenging but also rewarding. Glad to see you here on the forum (support group?). At least know that we are all in this together and for most of us it is worth it in the end!

Got April Insider mailing today with a 5 year certificate of membership - whoop whoop - lucky me . Pretty sure it's been a lot longer than that, but for some reason the older membership cards have a different number on them. Never mind. I think they told me my card would expire soon and to be honest I doubt I'll bother updating the card details and I'll just let the subscription lapse. |

Hi Alan Like you I felt the French magasine was ver thin so I changed for the German version. It is twice thicker (same price) and gives an opportunity to refresh your German Jean |

Insider Pack for 02/2021 arrived today, once again just as I was about to mow the lawns.... There's only the Marklin Magazine and Insider Magazine for 02/2021 this month. As I've noted before the English MM at 60 pages is less than half the size of the German edition at 136 pages (I also have a PDF file of the German version). For instance there's an article in the German edition on progress with the new Marklin Museum layout which is not in the English edition of the MM. I would love to be able to read it and I fear we are being shortchanged by Marklin given we pay the same membership fee. Edited by user 24 April 2021 11:46:23(UTC)

Reading this thread makes wonder if it of any value to subscribe to MM. Bigdaddy, how do you get the German version PDF? do have access because you subscribe to MM?

I too would love to see the extra content. The subscription cost for Insider membership is roughly equivalent to the price of an era VI lighted passenger car. Unfortunately that may not count for much in Märklins' thinking. It is probably a reflection of the market size for English speakers compared to the overall market. I wonder of the French version is also cut back. It is a bit like complaining about a road toll. I remember about 15 years ago an Australian investment company purchased some toll roads in the north of England. They quadrupled the toll within 6 months and the outrage was palpable. Nothing changed. Kimball |

I fear you are correct Kimball. The English magazine used to have the same content as the German version but alas no more.

Kimball When I was receiving the French version it was almost 50% thinner. Since a few years I asked Märklin to change my language to German. Now the 2/21 Märklin Magazin German edition is 132 pages. Lots to read; I cannot say for the French version now but it is probably as thin as the English one. Another advantage of being in German is now all prices are printed on the catalogues Cheers Jean |

Well my 02/21 issue arrived yesterday 05/05/21 about a few days behind the banana benders up in Queensland . Anyone else sense a slight redirection of the content from earlier issues especially in the insider edition ? I agree with Adrian that the outhouse is probably the best place to do most reading because you cannot be found unless someone has a sniffer dog readily available .

The #02/21 has arrived before the #01/21 Insider Club New and related literature !! Keeping track of these mailing is a big headache for me.
After much delay, all my Märklin Insider Club stuff (Annual Cars, Catalogues, etc.) for 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 which were stuck at Joes Modellbahnlädle due to the pandemic has arrived ! Due to the poor and rough handling of the Indian Customs, the package was crushed and it was in terrible condition when the postman hand it over to me. On top of that, I had to pay a customs duty of Euro 17.00 !!
Cheers, Ranjit |

Hi Husafreak... Luckily, the cars were okay, but the original boxes were a bit squashed. The two (2) catalogues were also okay, except they had a couple of "dog ears" ! The Indian customs are notorious for opening up the parcels in such a rough manner and they never have the decency to put it back properly after examination. I have had so many parcels returned to the sender. It is a hassle !
Take care and stay safe,
Cheerio ! Ranjit |

Issue 03 of 2021 was found in my letter box about 10 minutes ago ,Tuesday 22/06 , A bit wet thru all the magazines & other bits & pieces in one corner Will just have to let them dry in front of the heater tonight before any possibility of reading without pages tearing . Australia changed their postal delivery system either late last year or early this year by only delivering mail on 3 days a week , this way they can concentrate on parcels from flea bag & other internet sales as their is more money to be made in this sector so their bean counters reckon. I have the feeling we will be waiting for any a decade before "M" decides to spent a few more cents & send their larger mail out in decent waterproof plastic envelopes .
Cheers Tom in Oz .

Wet from rain? Otherwise, a $100 for wet magazines. Is it a matter of time for club news magazines to be online with member access codes?

Picked my 03/2021 out of the letter box tonight but I suspect it had been there for a few days. We've had a lot of rain here in NZ and I hadn't checked the mailbox for a few days. Everything in the package was wet right through. I've been able to scan the MM so that I can read it as I would think that once it dries all the pages will stick together.
Serves me right for not checking sooner.

The actual postage date stamp was the 19th.. My guess is that the EU has some Brexit mandate that delays all shipping to the UK. |

Guess what ? The postman just rang the bell to tell me that he has dropped the #03/21 package in the postbox ! It must be my lucky day ! Although, the package looked okay from the outside, I found that the right corner of the MM and the Insider Club News had gotten wet somehow, and had dried up. As a result, all the pages had got stuck together ! I am slowly managing to separate them by hand.
I suppose, my #01/21 is lost in transit.
Cheers, Ranjit |

I notice that the Märklin Catalog 2021/2022 EN (Item No. 15719) is listed in the Order Form. What about the details of the free Annual Car for club members ?

Looks like my 02 issue will have a heap of various dirty marks on it unless I decide to take it from my current small reading room & place it back in the house library room . The dirty marks are from small flying insects which tend to gather around compost heaps but do like the occasional visit to the human body for a feed of fresh blood .

Oh great, so does that mean we in the US will receive our 03/2021 issue two to three months after the rest of the world gets its 04/2021 issue?
