A simple question looking for a tip. I have a bottle of Faller glue but the spout, which is like a hypodermic needle, is blocked.
Someone will know how to unblock it? Yes?

Someone will know how to unblock it? Yes? This happens all the time! I take a length of (for example) Märklin connection wire, strip about 5cm of insulation off, and use a single strand of the wire inside to poke carefully down the spout of the glue bottle. This has always worked for me! Nigel |

I take a lighter and run it up and down the needle for 2-3 seconds. That burns off the dried glue(smoke included). This way I don’t push the dried glue back into the bottle. Then I wait a moment till the tip cools off and I’m back in business.

I use a piece of 0.3mm fishing line, Poke it inside the glue spout, and this opens it !

Faller supply a suitable wire with their glue for card etc. It comes in the same type of bottle and I use it in place of the top on the bottle of the plastic glue. Buy the card type glue and keep and use the wire supplied for Faller Expert and you will lever have a problem and the glue will always be ready to use instantly.
Pity Faller don’t supply this with The Expert glue why I don’t know. But thinking of writing to them with this in mind. |

Will soaking it in paint thiner work? I havn't used it. I use Testors with the thin plasatic tips. I clean those out with a toothpick.

Hi
I use a bit of Faller car system guiding wire or a lighter as Robert mentions. But I don't smoke since 1985 so lighters are scarce here.

I used to use a piece of guitar string. But a few days ago, after not having used the glue for a year or so, the string method didn't work. So I turned to the flame trick. Just heating the tip of the glue pipe was enough for me.

As I said in my post above just use the part supplied by Faller with their other glue. Why bother with lighters etc when not necessary. My Faller expert never clogs at any time using the above. I would not be happy for our younger model makers using a lighter. |

I also use the lighter trick, was given that tip by a local hobby dealer about 25 yrs ago and it still works...  Just wait until the pipe has cooled down before you remount it to the bottle. |

I usually try the thin wire first, but if that doesn't work, I remove the metal nozzle and hold it with pliers over a flame of a lighter or candle. That clears it in seconds with a flame coming out of the nozzle. When that flame is gone the nozzle is clear and you just need the metal to cool down before reinserting it into the glue bottle.

The REAL trick is when you finish using the glue or when you are not going to use it for a few minutes, hold the bottle upright and push out the glue in the needle. If you are finished using it for the day then push the wire into the needle and leave it there until next time. |
Take it easy . . . . or any other way you can get it !!!!

No need to spend time with lighters etc which is also dangerous. |

Don't forget that the glue itself is dangerous. It's flameable and toxic so ideally you should use protective gear in a well ventilated area. The plastic kits themselves should be kept out of reach from children under the age of 14 (says so on my Auhagen kit). Scalpels and hobby knives can cause injuries too by the way.
Next we can discuss the dangers of soldering which includes extremely high temperature, molten metal and toxic fumes.
If you have a wire or needle then of course you should use it for the glue (just be careful not to hurt yourself), if you don't have those tools, or they don't work then fire is a easy alternative... just be careful not to squirt a stream of burning glue out over your hands or workspace!

Yes, it contains taulene, an ethylene cracker by product of petrol gasoline refining. I used citrus based non toxic cement as a youth for model cars. It didn't quite do the best job.
