During lockdown, I thought I'd get my 50 year old Marlin from the loft and set up a layout. Everything looks like new and runs perfectly. Except the green lenses of the semaphore signals which have faded to nearly white (in their boxes). Any ideas how I can restore the colour. I considered a blob of green enamel paint, but worry it might obscure the light altogether. Any suggestions gratefully received. It is interesting to see the red lenses have not faded at all. Thanks.

Hi
Welcome to the forum
I think you may:
* change the signal lenses see here https://www.ebay.fr/itm/26445110...7TbVFcgagtwaAu5rEALw_wcB
* apply a drop of stainedglass transparent color varnish ( test it first as some product are a bit opaque
Cheers
Jean

how about replacing the (presumably) white light bulbs with the little green Märklin light bulbs? Not sure how easy it is to get them now.

On form signals ("Formsignale'") the bulb needs to be white as the color blend may be green red or orange depending on the signal type

I have had great success with this product on lenses as well as bulbs. Always test on scrap piece first to see how many coats it will take.

Great paints period! Rustoleum has unfortunately discontinued the Testors Modelmaster line. I discovered this while shopping for some tarnished copper paint. My hobby shop sold me some Polyscale Sylvan green acrylic (also discontinued) but I was not satisfied with the shade.
Hovermotion (Jim) on youtube was doing the same Faller kit as I, St. Martin gate. He was using Citadel Nihilak oxide wash. I brushed over the green and it looks perfect. I also used it alone on the Faller Falkeneck hunters lodge cupolas.

As a "funny" foot-note about the coloured lenses of the semaphore signals; The "green" light was originally achieved through a BLUE lense! (As the incandescant bulb glows yellowish) -I have at least one of those.
Later models have the nicer-looking green lenses.
So, depending on what version of teh signal you want to restore, and how close to the original you want it, a BLUE lense might be what you are looking for... Laugh

Humbrol 1325 is their clear green. Maybe easier to source for you.

Good luck!

Thanks for all your suggestions. I used coloured transparent Glass paint (I didn't know there was such a thing), perfect.
