I am a new guy here. First time to configure Roco train. Just bought a Roco 79819 (Re 4/4 174 BLS) for Marklin AC. Using my MS2 "Find" to register the loco, it shows "DCC3," and has limited default functions. Please see Is it any other way to find the RIGHT address for more functions through MS2? I think that you should load the loco manually. Do not load it automatically. Find a Marklin loco that has the same sounds and use this loco. This is what I did ages ago with the MS1
ESU decoders had two subsequent CV1 addresses to allow you to use all the 'hidden' functionalities on older Motorola control stations, like the MS1

Trying to register manually through MS2 “database “ but so far no luck. Contacting Roco to see any suggested address.

Haven't used my MS2 to register locos in a long time (using a CS3 now) but just enter the locomotive manually like Mario54i says. You don't have to fiddle with CVs just follow the instructions in the user manual. It's a bit cumbersome when dealing with naming and entering icons and symbols but it's all in the manual. It will take some practice to get used to how the buttons and the user interface works.

If the locomotive is already wrongly registered you should delete it and then start over.

Thank you all for your suggestions. Another advice from a YouTuber recommends the following procedure:


1. reset the decoder - find "Reset Loco". Select this one. You will see the locomotive briefly blink with its light.
2. Back out of the menus and press the STOP button. Then wait 5 sec. The power off will trigger the decoder reset. Press STOP button after 5 sec giving power to the tracks. The locomotive should now be reset. Lights should off.
3. delete the current locomotive using SHIFT+Locomotive. Scroll down and select "Remove Loco"
4. add it manually. Find a spot without a locomotive (the one you are on should be on). SHIFT+locomotive, scroll down and select "Enter Manually", then scroll down and select DCC. Go through the next few steps by just accepting name "ABC", change address to 3. Now you should have the locomotive as address 3 in DCC mode and the MS2 should display all the function keys.


So far it works well for my 79819 on MS2!

How many function symbols you see for DCC locos depends on how you add the loco and which version the MS2 has.
To get meaningful function symbols you have to edit them in the MS2 anyway.
Function keys without symbol do not do anything. To make use of F0 through F28 select symbols for all functions supported by the loco. The Roco loco should come with a leaflet that lists the available sounds and other functions.

Yeah I don’t know whether to get another Roco loco for now since it requests some effort to configure with Marklin, just like Apple and MS! Maybe later!

this is an interesting document it tells you which loco has which Function button enabled.
I used to do it this way with my old MS1, find the loco with the funtions needed load it from the database and then change the address to my loco. Fun

yes agreed, but you see the functions the Roco loco has and find a similar Marklin one, you select it and then tou change the address to the Roco one

@tom what you ask I really don't know. I don't have the MS1 anymore and never had the MS2. But surely, functions should work in any format, or not ? This I do not know.
The table goes up to F15 though.
The table might be old but I believe somewhere there is a new one ? Not that I want to be right at all costs !
