I would like to buy some Trix Swiss passenger cars and run them on my Märklin layout.

Is it as easy as swapping couplers or is more involved?

I do not need have car lights or any other use of power by the cars, just so they run behind a Märklin Loco and, even better, that I can couple them in a trains of Märklin Passenger cars.

What is involved? How hard?

Just change the wheels to Marklin wheels (the product description gives you the correct part number).. In fact, if you don't have any contact tracks (for s88 or level crossings) on your layout, most times, you don't even need to do that..

Recent items will have couplings very similar to Marklin ones. Items older than about 20-25 years may need couplers to be checked.

One difference may also be the length scale of the coaches. Some Märklin coaches are only 24 cm long, but true to scale they would be 27-28 cm or even more. It looks a bit funny if you mix different makes of the same prototype if the length is different.

If you are using C track you don't even need to swap the wheels, the Trix stuff runs just fine since their own track is the exact same rail profile etc...

Are the coupler pockets the same so I can just add standard Marklin couplers? Do you need a new pocket?

Let's start by asking which Trix models you are interested in?

Do you have the model numbers?

That's not true. Trix C track has different rails and different spacing than Märklin C track.

Trix items with 3xxxx numbers will not run on Märklin C track and the couplers will not work with Märklin couplers.
Trix items with 2xxxx and 4xxxx should be fine - 4xxxx items already come with AC wheelsets.

Thanks Tom! This is interesting, so is the rail code on the trix "c" track not the same as the Marklin track? The spacing I did know, apologies for any confusion by my not mentioning it.
