This looks like the LFCM = Large Flat Commutator Motor. For this motor, the upgrade kit Märklin 60944 Hochleistungsmotor should be OK. As to choosing to decoder, other members probably have better knowledge. I would try Märklin 60983 LokDecoder mLD3.

Märklin 60760 is only for DCM = Drum Commutator Motors.

this site, list the class 515 having an SFCM motor, and for an SFCM a 60943 kit would be required. (plus a decoder eg 60972 or 60983.)

this thread might give you some more information (use google translate if needed)

I have this little railcar and confirm that it was a SCFM.. A 5 pole motor helps it to run great, but make sure that all the running gear moves freely before installing the new motor bits.

I also did some work installing LEDs instead of the power hungry bulbs.. In terms of reducing the power consumption, it worked great, but that center bulb needs work.. In hindsight, I should have used an LED set from a passenger wagon instead of simply replacing the bulb..

^^ Thanks a lot for very useful links. 60943 it will be then.

^Adrian: could you explain your led installation a bit more? What kind of LED's did you use? and did you connect those to decoder + and - or somewhere else and how big resistor?

I used John's 3028 conversion topic as the basis for converting my 3429..

Have a read of this:

https://www.marklin-user...ersion-3028--3428-Br-515

Where John used surfaced mounted LEDs, I used 2mm white/red LEDs that I bought from China, but the whole approach is similar...

If I would like to include sounds would 60987 märklin decoder be enough with 60943 motor upgrade set? Or do I still need additionally 60972 or 60983?
