Hi folks. Does anyone have any recommendations or reviews of roller test beds or similar, suitable for 3 rail analogue locos? I've seen an E-Z Riders unit advertised on eBay but have no idea of their quality or value for money. Any insights gratefully received!

Thank you for the speedy reply! The Marklin item is beautifully made but as you say, very expensive. The Mazero Rollenprüfstand looks very similar to the E-Z Rider item and is of course a lot cheaper. The KPF-Zeller site appears to be down at the moment but I will investigate later. How long it will take to ship one to New Zealand these days, will be the next question...

You will be lucky to get anything from Germany to NZ these days.. You might have to plonk it onto next year's budget.. |

See the explanation in the link at the top of the Lokshop web page.

I inherited one (I think it is SMT) The annoying thing is that one has to adjust the wheels on both sides which is pain in the rear end. Wheels are always opposite. I have seen more modern design have the wheels on both sides linked so that one only has to adjust the wheel spacing once.

Hmm, some interesting replies there! Can't find any on sale here in NZ at the moment so might just make my own. I've got the materials and workshop just waiting to be used.

I was able to purchase a Bachrus test stand some time before the company went out of business. They’re probably available used on EBay. I understand Micromark test stands are pretty good.

But don't hold your breath! Originally Posted by: Klasse 89 The Marklin item is beautifully made but as you say, very expensive. I don't think I paid 300€ for my Marklin roller stand, but then I don't remember what I did pay for it. It is quite good once you have the adjustable roller wheels set, but I find the roller wheels really stiff and hard to move and adjust even with the fixing screws unwound.

Well, I reckon that if I can't source anything localy in the near future, then building one is the way to go. Looks like an interesting little project!

Look for a Hornby one. I was most amused to see one and the picture on the box was of the SMT one with C track - you could clearly see the studs in the picture - but I don't know just what track the Hornby one uses, maybe Trix C track. The Marklin one is SMT as they bought the company.

Hi all. I have a Bachrus system which I bought a couple of years ago. I find it very good as it fits on normal track, is small enough to fit locos with close wheelbases and also fits H0 and TT track. There is an optional 3-rail adaptor which fits between the rollers . I did not know they were out of business but it looks like the owner retired. Photo of one of my locos on my system. Hope you can find a suitable model. Colin.

Two recommendations for the Bachrus system! It does look like a well made piece of kit. All I simply have to do, is find one... :-)

Hi here is another homemade test stand. 4 pc. of roller bearings fom Marion Zeller 20 Euro total. It handle all my locomotives - I have about 80. Have used it for many years. It handle AC/DC/Digital. Do not pay a lot of money for items you do not use very often. Torstein
