Hello Gerald,
This is a good système with an arduino and without a gleisbox!
But I have a question,
What is the protocol of the système MM or mfx?
Have a nice day

Now it's only MM2 !
... but in few years it can be mfx with help of everybody

You have no difference between MM2 & MFX for loc moving
.................................................................. turns
................................................................... F0-F5 functions

I know somebody who change Märklin dekoder to Esu Dekoder to have 16 Funktions

Fascinating! I’ve long wanted to do something like this, I don’t have Windows but perhaps Mac/Linux or Raspberry PI could command the Arduino, in my case I’d probably write something in NodeJS to do it. Most other solutions seem to require a CAN bus module, I guess your solution turns the Arduino output into CAN style hi/lo pulses? Sorry if my terminology is off but I think I’ve got the gist of it Confused. Keep up the good work.
Must build something

For the mfx, this is a very hard protocol with the adress. A mfx decoder have a fixed adress (the adress you can change with in the CV) and a other adress who is refresh at every begin of the central.
A other point of the mfx decoder is can speak at the central. The communication is in 2 direction.
As this, we can communicate in french.
Good night

Why does it have to be an ESU decoder; why can't you have 16 functions from a Märklin decoder??

Per.

Cool

This project reminds me of a similar project that our member perz did more than 10 years ago with home built signal processing hardware connected via USB and a device controller software. We also have the very interesting Arduino project in the forum since a couple of years ago.

All alternative projects to control model trains are welcome, we are all enthusiastic about learning new things and many also about alternate ways to control our layouts.
