Can you help me identify this? Found this on a Märklin M track. It appears like sort of contact thing, as you can see one Waggon has got another part which would interact/touch it when it passes by. Maybe someone knows something - thanks!!

It looks like a product offered by Faller no 641

It was used to provide a train-specific contact to activate accessories/switches/signals

Correct, Faller used to sell these, one part attached to a step on a waggon or coach and would make ground contact with the part stuck into the M-Track.
You could set it up to switch signals or relays to control trains.
