Ok, so I am in a situation where I am losing my train room for the medium term now, and so am going to have to put my model trains into storage. That being said, they’ll be in climate control storage, but what are people’s thoughts about adding desiccant packets to the inside of the boxes as well? Useful, or just unnecessary? Thanks

I'm hoping that reaction is the sad reality of my having to put them into storage, and not at the prospect of using desiccants LOL LOL LOL

Neither, it's the criminal activity of losing your train room...

If it is climate controlled then probably unnecessary, but at the same time wouldn't hurt either. Just make sure the bags are physically up against the trains to be safe

Wouldn't hurt, I put one into each box and a large bag into the closet.

Make sure your models are stored with their wheels on the downside (just like they stay on tracks).

if the place is truly climate controlled you should be ok. Humidity is a bigger danger than some heat, so I would 100% use the silica packs- they are cheap insurance...

I have most of my trains in a climate controlled storage room, and there the humidity is controlled also.

In my work I've experienced some desiccant packets being full, and then they start dripping ACID !!

Thus, make sure the desiccant packets are below your trains, preferably with a drip-tray under them.

Per.

Cool
