Sorry but another CS3 problem...

I spent days trying to figure out how not to use "Workspaces" in RocRail, and when I finally had it, and both my PC and laptop could loads the same plan from RocRail, it seems the CS3 will no longer respond to RocRail.

I have no idea if it is related or coincidence...

I have tried restarting the CS3, RocRail, shut down RocView multiple times.

RocRail log says:

The CS3 just isn't responding... What could cause this? Also, what is the CS3 broadcasting on 15731?

Thanks for any help, I feel a bit stressed about the amount of time I'm spending on this.

Normally for me when my laptop and CS2 no longer talk to each other, the network settings have changed on their own. I always experience this after a CS2 update and quite often after a short circuit shutdown of the CS2.

I do not know if this is your problem, but I would certainly check the network settings on the CS3 to see if they have changed from what you have configured in Rocrail.

Can't help with any of your other problems, but your trace doesn't list the IP address it is attempting to contact. However I wonder if this is the cs3 attempting to contact Marklin to see if there is a software update available.

Why don't you try it at the Rocrail Forum too? It is in English available.

https://forum.rocrail.net/

You may find there more people with experience in Rocrail combined with the CS 3 from Maerklin.

Hi,

The dump has the destination address, 255.255.255.255. It's an odd port to broadcast on.

Thanks

Because most Internet fora are quite un-pleasant, this on isn't. I haven't got an account on there, maybe I will set one up.

That being said, this is a CS3 problem, not a RocRail problem, I think.

If your Cs3 works fine without Rocrail then the problem will not be with the controller. The Rocrail site might be your best bet although I am sure somebody on here will have a similar set up and could help.
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.

Hi,

I have done a full packet dump as well, and RocRail sends all the right stuff, power on/off etc. is clearly visible in the packet and it doesn't get rejected by the CS3.

Ok, I will register on the RocRail forum.

Thanks

OK, I am not a network expert, but if I remember correctly that address is reserved as a broadcast address for an item to say to anything else interested on the local network "hey I exist". I don't know what the story is with the port number, but that may be an option that allows other equipment to know what is broadcasting and identify it. I presume the message also contains the message of the item broadcasting so other items know who to reply to.

Hi,

I actually think I might know what has happened. I ticked "Auxiliary Device" under Master/Slave settings by mistake. I unticked it again, but not sure it's right or what it has done.

Thanks

I think it's factory reset time. I have backed up to USB, can I import only track plan and locomotives after a reset?

From memory you need to reboot after unticking 'auxiliary device'. have you done this?

Many times, but it reboots automatically as well.

If the cs3 is set to DHCP, I assume you have a DHCP server, normally the router.

If you have the cs3 set to static IP address is the first three digits the same as the IP address of the PC?

Hi,

Problem resolved, the controller in RocRail had been changed to mcs2 instead of mbus. God knows how, I haven't been anywhere near that.

Thanks
