Not sure if this counts as actual weathering or a total respray job...

Excellent idea Dale.,
They look great. Will you add some coal or ore of some kind?
Might just do the same, if only we could also repair the warped ones as straight-forwardly.

Thanks for sharing that,
Mark

In single point perspective, where do track lines meet?

Hi Dale,

What a dramatic change.

There is nothing wrong with toys, but the tippers no longer look like toys.

They look much better now! Perhaps I would have varied the tones/shades a bit more (could be that your photo doesn't show this) and some colour of the residue of loads inside the hoppers.

For the warped hoppers, why not take a soldering iron to them (only for a moment!) and simmulate more damage from careless loading. You could even glue one or two wires across the tops of the hopper to represent reinforcing rods that you sometimes see on the prototype.

Looks good!

I don't have any of the 4513 model but I have a few of the later all plastic 4413, for which I have done something similar.

My 4413s have all been repainted in brown colours (not all the same shade) so that they no longer look like toys. I have not actually weathered them beyond just a simple repaint.

You can see them here behind my green Br81.

yes indeed, I think I will do some individual weathering, and stains, etc sometime.

A very delayed imitation - I tried my hand at the tipper repaint, but only my black undercoat was sprayed on the plastic tipper.
I applied a series of colours from dark brown to a lighter shade by drybrushing, followed by a touch of weathering powders (metal and rust).
The first photo shows a weathered truck next to one still to be done, the second has the truck tipped over to show some of the weathering.
Although belatedly - thanks for the inspiration. One down, many to go...
