Hi all.
I have just received a 37618 MFX B&O F7 set but when tested would not register on my 60652 controller.
Other MFX locos registered correctly so I opened up the lead F7 unit where I found that the circuit board which plugs onto the fixed board in the loco had come loose and was lying in the body !!
My question is - which way round does the loose circuit board fit back on ?

Is it with the side with the plastic connector housing fitting onto the projecting pins of the fixed board or the projecting pins fitting through the holes in the loose circuit board into the plastic connector on the other side ?

Can anyone please help ?
Regards. Colin.

Yours too?? 😱 _DSC6314.JPG

My decoder was also loose and it burned when I reinstalled it. After 6 months at Märklin it worked.

Thanks for that. I will fit the decoder as per photo and try again.

Of course Colin! Hope it works!
Not good odds that 2 of these models came to us with a loose decoder.

Hi. I tried the decoder in the position in the photo but the loco would not register !
The decoder was becoming HOT so I switched off and now the loco is packed ready to go back to the vendor after the holiday.
Again thanks for your help but it looks like another fried decoder for this model.
Best regards and seasons greetings. Colin.

Hi Colin!

Really odd. That's exactly what happened to my unit too. The decoder became burning hot. That's bad from Märklin. 2 locos of the same model with the same number.

I really hope you still have a great Christmas and you will get a working 37618 again.

Best regards David

Thanks David.
Yes it is odd that both failed with the same problem. I think that the vertical mounting of the decoder and the sideways position of the loco in the box may cause the decoder to fall away from the pins in transit but why it fails when re-fitted is a mystery.
Anyway I have just received a loco which works ! A 33865 Red arrow railcar with trailer, I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that it was Digital.
Best regards, Colin.

It's a real mystery.
I've bought almost all of the newer F7 units like 37628, 37624, 37629, 39621, 26496 with most of them the same type of decoder setup and none of them had that problem. Maybe they hired someone in the assembly line that ruined our 37618 loks?

Nice! The red arrow is also on my wanted list. 😀 I've just ordered the 39243 as a compliment to the 39241. 😀

It does look like a mystery if all the other locos which have the same decoder setup do not have the falling out problem !
This is the first F7 in my collection to have MFX as all the others are either analogue or have switch-set addresses.
It is reassuring to know that any other MFX F7s I may find and buy will hopefully not suffer from the same problem.
Best regards, Colin.
