Hi,

I have attached a webcam, and the CS3 can see it's a C270, but just says Preview not Possible. Any ideas? I haven't found anything Googling.

Thanks

Hello,

Just seen on a french forum Marklin has released a fix for CS3, which allows C270 (and maybe others) to run.

See http://www.3rails.fr/for...f=3&p=209375#p209375 and use a translator of your choice if you don't read French.

Cheers
Fabrice

The gist of it (google translate) is:
Quote:
Märklin has just provided a patch for running a WebCam with the CS3.

I just did the test and I confirm that now it works properly with a Logitech C270

To take advantage of this patch, you must force the update of the CS3 (Press simultaneously on the left rotary knob and the STOP key for ten seconds). The CS3 must of course be connected to the Internet

To monitor hidden stations is one reason I can think of.

Beyond me. Driving trains is fine and my steamers drivers have never heard of a web cam. Probably something that will upset a CS3.
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.

Thanks, I had already watched this but it's not a very helpful video when things don't work.

I still don't get why one would plug it into the cs3. Why not plug it direct into the PC and save the workload of streaming video by the cs3? Doesn't make sense to me.

Personally I would use a raspberry Pi as a web cam server instead, and have it run direct to a screen.

More and more cabling. The cables that go to my garage are 20m long and requires crawling around the loft. And please don't say "wifi", wifi is the d3vil.

Thanks

Alan a raspberry pie sounds good. Do we heat it or have it cold. Seriously what is wrong with the underbed decoder.

I know there has in the past been talk about turnout motors but I would suggest to buy one along with a decoder and give it a go.

So, the camera is plugged into the cs3, where is the picture displayed? The impression I have from the video is that it is displayed on a PC.

It would be possible to do the same with an RPi, hooked to the same network, so offloading the video streaming from the cs3.
I still can't see any advantage to loading down the cs3 with handling the video streaming.

Would still require a cable to the garage and I'm not installing crap switches on my network nor am I spending hundreds on a switch just for the garage.

I think this debate has gone off track a bit. I asked why the CS3 could not see the webcam picture, which Fabrice solved, I did not ask about networking or fruit pies...

Yeah, but from the video it seems the cs3 does not then display the picture, so I'm wondering how you are going to do that.

The CS3 has a webserver and the video stream is available via that.

Right, so you have a cable to the garage, and could put an ethernet switch there if needed.

I could but:

I can't believe a webcam would saturate a piece of modern hardware. If it does, I won't use it, it's not that important to me.

Apologies Alan. I think the same member has a thread running about turnout switches.
