Hi
I'm also mainly interested in the 700 and 800 series. Post a photo.
You are very lucky living in such a fantastic country like Norway. I travelled as far North as Hammefest a couple of years ago.

Can't say I've ever seen M-track with blackened tongues, or perhaps I have and just didn't notice but I am a "what's wrong with this picture?" guy so I would have thought I'd remember seeing one.

Either way, I don't think they are anywhere near as common as the (nickel)? plated version.

Just my experience

In the immortal words of Bart Simpson "think harder Homer"

If we look at the picture harder, they appear to have heat discolouration. And the previously melted plastic around the mounting suggests heat also. The old Marklin transformers were powerful enough to do this if there was a short somewhere.

From the factory these tongues would have been silver like all the others.

Cheers.....

Mike

Sorry Mike, gonna need a little more convincing than that Laugh

I don't personally see the plastic as melted, looks more like reflection than anything, nice shiney plastic. And that blackening is very uniform and consistent all over, heat blackening usually is more discoloured and uneven than this appears.

And I think the Blue box and vintage holds a clue, it way well have been a short-term production item for reasons unknown, materials, error in the factory etc etc

Let's see who else can dive into their M-Track storage and find any other examples.

Cheers

My diagnosis is based on personal experience many years ago. And when I zoomed in on the photos I could see the normal silver coloured finish under the blackening. The plastic if heated just enough to soften but not enough to completely lose its shape, will often finish up with a shiny surface look.

Not sure if I still have any examples still at home, but I can take a look when I get home

Cheers....

Mike

Hallo folks!!
Thanks for many good replies here.I,am sure there is no heat-issues here the points are NOS items and there has not
been any activity on them. The tracs have no sign of wear, and the contacts i guess will easily been marked if used.

Bet regards kaav800

Looks like the shiny silvery parts got oxidised with air or some chemical.
The tabs that hold the plastic center rail isolator are also blackened on the top view.

Thanks,
Walter
