Hi everyone,

I have been unable to find a manufacturer that produces electromechanical interlocking units for signal towers (interior detail).

I bought the Faller kit 120118 but it only has mechanical levers/units and electronic control tables, unsuitable for my particular layout.

So does anyone know of one available, or perhaps you own a 3D printer and have/can made some? BigGrin

Otherwise I will have to take a shot at building them out of polystyrene I think.

For those not sure what I am referring to, electromechanical interlocking was used to operate semaphore signals and points by electrical means from the signal tower to the motor unit, rather than by mechanical cables.
They were replaced with purely electrical interlocking at the same time as Light signals were installed.

Cool

I have one BigGrin

It's a true prototypical one, probably too big for you Laugh

I am sure these came with my signal box... or the add on Faller kit.... I did not know what they were at first...

Hello Applor,

hopefully you understand German. I found at Stummis a thread about an "elektromechanisches Stellwerk". It is a long thread. I did not read through. The author describes as he has built such an interlocking by himself. But be careful, this member "Microbahner" wrote somewhere, he is a retired Diplom-Ingenieur for Elektrotechnik. Actually it was a part of his profession doing work with electronics.

Perhaps it helps you a little bit, anyway.

Cheers

Yes there is one that comes from the Faller kit, however from what I have read those tall cabinets are not electromechanical interlocking.

As you can see on wikipedia:

https://de.wikipedia.org...i/Mechanisches_Stellwerk

UserPostedImage

They are shown with the description:
von oben: Blockkasten, Fahrstraßenhebel und Blockuntersatz im Bahnhof Lette (Kr Coesfeld)

Translates to 'block box'

Also when I asked on Stummi forum and mentioned the Faller kit, I was told there were no electromechanical stellwerk equipment included.

I do not know exactly what those block box units are for, perhaps someone here can answer how they work?

yes those are all the 'sub-parts' that together form the electromechanical interlock.
This is it, you dont need anything ore.

No, those parts are for mechanical interlocking not electromechanical interlocking which use the flat long green cabinets.

In regards to the block box I believe it is where the interlocking is applied that actually locks the signal and point levers in place.

Hello Eric,
I found these pics on the Eisenbahnstiftung website. Maybe they can help you.

there was a separate room called a "relay room" that held all the pure electrical locking systems. Also a separate generator room.

The electromechanical interlocking cabinets existed in a lot of different shapes and colors. Cool

The actual locking of the individual signals and points so they couldn't move were done locally, at the signals and the points.

I think the Faller kit are quite OK, if you want, you can just leave out the tables showing the colored lights.

Of course, if you want to model a very specific Stellwerk that you have in mind, you might have to build it yourself.

Here's a lot more pictures of different electromechanical interlocking systems:
