Looking for help replacing the missing center post for coupler, short of junking car, using as is or some idea to fabricate replacement post.
Any ideas?

If you can unclip the body than a fine nut and bolt should allow you to attach the coupling back onto the wagon.

If you cannot get the body off then a very short self tapping screw should bind in the plastic well enough to hold the body on. I'm thinking the very short screws used to go into sheet metal in home appliances for attaching grounding lugs and the like here, guess about 1/4" or 5/16" long.

If neither of those proves successful then drill through the body of the wagon and use a nut and bolt. Fit a suitable load to hide the bolt.

It looks like someone drilled out the original peg to fit a different type of coupler. I've got around this type of problem by attaching the coupler with a self tapping screw. You might need to make the hole in the coupler a bit bigger so that there is enough clearance to allow the coupler to swing.
