Hi guys Cool

I bought this engine.

A first Roco.

First of all, it's not Marklin, but she's a pretty railcar.

Secondly, with regard to the attached documentation, Roco is a big 0.

If you are a specialist in decoders and CVs, you will be delighted.

For guys like me, it's lame and a big 0. I'm still trying to figure out what the 12 functions of the railcar are.

So I ask for the help of a forum member who owns this loco, a cs2 and who has successfully configured the functions.

That would be very much appreciated.

Thank you

Have a nice day

Many members have Roco on this forum and not one is able to help me?

So I'm going to ask the question again in a different way: where can I find information on the different functions included in the different Roco locos?

I think I'll have to send an email to Roco directly, as the dealer who sold it to me won't answer me.

He doesn't care he got his money ostie!!!!!

12 functions in Roco 69178 DB 650 ? Is it sound ? From catalog it is not sound and has only headlights digitally controllable.

You specifically asked for help from owners of Roco 69178 (which I am not).

The pamphlets that come with the Roco loco do not teach you how to use the CS2. They do not even teach you the DCC 101. No-one would expect that, would they?

Most likely this train only has F0, F3, and F4. Maybe F1 also.
The CS2 manual will teach you how to select symbols for those functions. Remove symbols for undefined functions and you're done.
Regards
Tom

Mario thank youCool

I wrote 12 functions because it appears on the screen of the cs2 F1, F2, F3... to F12 for this loco when I configured it on the programming track.

In my accounting logic, if it appears F1 to F12, it is because there should be 12 functions.

Nothing more or less but it seems my logic is not Roco's.

Thank you Ho.

You are right..... but you forgot the rest of the post you're referring to where I was asking for this: ''So I'm going to ask the question again in a different way: where can I find information on the different functions included in the different Roco locos? '' question that totally changes the meaning of my initial post.

And I have no problem with the different configurations offered by the cs2. I was simply asking what the functions were on this railcar. Not complicated, I think.

In conclusion, the dealer's lack of response makes me say more''never Roco''. I'm even able to send the railcar back to him and say, "Since you can't answer the questions I'm asking you, I'll return your toy.''

The Wolf, ignorance is not going to help you much; I have numerous Roco locos and never had any problems with them., there seems to be confusion on your part with F1-F12 ?
Why should this loco have 12 functions, as Tom suggested it will have F 1 - F 4.

further to your inquiry, if the loco is new you should have a booklet underneath the foam to help you further with your inquiries.

it would also most probably reveal which decoder is fittedto this loco ( I assume Zimo).

All you need is ascertain the decoder address and run the loco presumable on your layout, simple like ABC. if you would like headlights just activate F 0.

If you bought it second hand someone may has added a sound decoder and there are different wasy of finding out where there is or isn't.

Read my answer ° 7. You'll understand why I'm talking about 12 functions.

Are you calling me ignorant?

I was hoping to receive an answer like F0 = lights, F1 = lantern before etc...

I never received the expected answer.

All I received was: a booklet must be attached and blah, blah, blah, blah.or another answer of the same kind, but never a clear and precise answer

I am a retired accountant and not at all a specialist in zymo decoders or anything else. If there are guys for whom it's child's play, I'm happy for them. Me about the decoders, I don't understand anything or so little.

It seems to me that one of them even told me about ignorance on my part. And if I'm an ignorant in this field, I'm proud to be so, but if these guys are ignorant in my specialty, I'd be happy to help them

We ask for help and we receive as an answer: read the notice.

But don't worry: the dealer says the same thing: consult the manual

Conclusion: I called Paypal, I send the loco back and I get a refund and the dealer can (go away) off.

And it's going to be a long time before I come back here and ask a question

Sorry to see you go, but when you've washed your mouth out and calmed down you are welcome back. We sometimes get 'cultural differences' here, and honest misundertandings, and sometimes yes, other members can be a bit intolerant so if you have an issue with the way someone has responded, all it takes is a quick note to the mods and we'll check it out. But in this case all I see is a very helpful reply from John which you've taken excessive and unwarranted exception to. John never called you ignorant or anything close to it.

And remember this is a family-friendly forum and that language is just not on!

The Roco 69178 looks to be a nice model.

A simple Google search would have found the manual for this railcar, but there's no mention in the manual of any special functions. You may be limited to Headlights, Tail lights, possibly Interior lights, and Inertia. Given the railcar has a Marklin Motorola decoder, there probably isn't more than 4 functions plus headlights. The only way to tell would have been to run the railcar and try the functions, but you have to have one to do that and you sent yours back. Since there is no clear information in the manual or website regarding functions, you were the only one who could possibly give a clear and precise answer to your own question.

It can be frustrating when we ask a question and no-one replies. It's happened to me in the past, but I understand that probably no-one replies because no-one knows the answer!

I have two Roco AC locos. Both have digital decoders with only limited functions (Lights, shunting speed and acceleration/braking delay). When I register them on my MS2 I get a screen full of functions but most do nothing.

From the tone of "The Wolf"s replies it seems he got impatient with the rest of us for not answering quickly and with the type of information he wanted. We can't always get what we want in life!

Hi Wolf,

To answer your question; when you register a non mfx loco the CS2 does not know how many functions the decoder has. In the configuration menu you choose how many functions and then afterwards you can assign the icons and if it’s a momentary or continuous function etc.

So just because CS2 says F1 and F2 etc. does not mean that the decoder actually has all these functions.

This is one reason why Marklin came up with the Mfx protocol to automatically load all the details of the decoders into the CS. With MM and DCC decoders you have to do some manual configuration.

If you don’t have the manual you just try and activate each function. If something happens then there is a function.

Ps: sometimes it’s quiet on the forum and the users who often reply to questions may be offline or busy. So just because we don’t get reply within a couple of days, does not mean people are ignoring you.

Best Regards
Lasse
