Coming from the LGB world of garden railways and the Pola/Piko line of thick walled plastic buildings that have held up well for 15 plus years of outdoors use, I am preparing to build a new line in gauge 1. I want to use some of Marklin's nice buildings. But, can anyone report on thier robustness for use outdoors where our weather can be 98'F with 100% humidity to -40'F wind chills in the winter, rain with hail in the summer. I would like to eventually get the signal tower that spans the track, the engine house, water tower and a station. Thanks Mike the Aspie

I don't think that it is temperature that kills the plastic, but strong sunlight does. FD is a huge fan of 1 gauge and wanted to set up a permanent line outside. The dealer and another acquaintance told us about an outside layout where the track's plastic had crumbled after two or three summers..

I used all LGB track on mine, been outdoors for 15 years with no issues. Gets a mix of sun and shade. New line will get a bit more sun till the trees mature a few more years

According to the catalogue the new watertower is made of graphic board. An older engine shed is made of MDF and board. Maybe you should contact Märklin about the outdoor use of the products.
