Good evening,
I know that old retrofitted Marklin locos had the issue of flickering lights, going digital.
My 3001 on which I used a Uhlenbrock decoder has to flicker.

But I don't understand why the BR 44 Art. # 37880 flickers too as well though. This is digital from birth.

Have you got any ideas ?

I use an EcoS 2 control system.

Thank you

Marco

This loco is not "fx" according to the product database.
Locos with 6080 or 6090 decoder usually have the lights wired in a way that leads to flickering.
This flickering allows Märklin to retain the "analogue" light bulbs for 19 V.
Locos with flicker-free lights have "digital" light bulbs for 22 V.

You can rewire the lights to get rid of the flickering.
Maybe disabling RailCom and/or mfx in the ECoS reduces the flickering.
Regards
Tom

Railcom is disabled

I could try and replace the lightbulb with one made for Digital ?

Lights flicker when the bulb is connected between decoder and loco frame.
To get rid of the flickering, you have to connect both wires of the bulb to the decoder - and then you need a "digital" bulb.
Older decoders do not have a wire for the common return

Marco

There are some solutions available according to the decoder.
If the decoder is a 6080 series you can achieve that only with diodes etc

For 6090 there are other solutions

So tell who is the decoder and we can help you

You can find a common plus contact on both 6080 and 6090 decoders.

unless I open the loco and see the PCB, but I don't know how to recognise one decoder from another anyway, I will not be able to know what it mounts.
I searched on the internet for a hint but there is nothing, in my opinion. I'll ave to open it. The spare part list doesn't say anything as well, just the code of the PCB

attached the picture of the decoder.

To me it is not clear which decoder it is running.

Thank you

You can tell from the number "701.13" on the chip that it is indeed a c90 decoder. No fx, just one function.

Tom thank you,
so I should use the 'Waterstone Terminal' on the PCB as suggested on the pallund.dk website ?

By one function decoder it means I only have the lights, correct ? At least I interpret it in this way.

I also just discovered that one of the, it looks like one, resistors was lose and it just came off. I'll have to resolder it :-)

BTW how can you tell which Seuthe smoke unit one has ? By the color of the roundel at the base or it is impossible to determine ?

You can tell it from the colour.

apparently, re=soldering the resistor seems to have fixed the light flickering.
To me they don't seem to be flickering anymore. I'll look at it more closely tomorrow

Thank you for your help
