I have a problem with the variable side of a Marklin 6646 (110v, HO) transformer. The fixed side seems to work properly. Is there a way to remove the cover and check the inside of this transformer?

or can you recommend anyone who will offer repair service?

Dick

What is the nature of the problem? Is there a dead spot or other similar issue with the dial or is it a contact issue (no output or intermittent output)?

Hi Dick,

With the greatest of respect, Transformers are dangerous items. Please ensure you are confident and skilled in this area, otherwise seek a skilled professional.

But... even if you do, unless they've seen one before it's highly likely they will say to you "how do you open it" :-)

The problem is most likely that the flexible wire from the wiper control has detached. The actual repair is simple and it's been discussed here before, I just don't have time at the moment to find the previous topics.

But basically it involves extracting the four small white plugs, two either side. A common trick is to drill a small hole, then screw in a small sharp self-tapping screw to grab the plug then pull it out.

But as I said, maximum care and I am not responsible for the perm you may acquire should you poke in the wrong place!!! BigGrin

If no one else posts the previous topic/s I'll try to find them later tonight.

Regards

Steve

there appears to be no output from the transformer...on this variable side. I would be happy if someone can recommend a competant repair person.

Hi Dick,

Here is some older post regarding possible repair solutions:

https://www.marklin-user...r-6646-is-having-trouble

And is this one scroll down to last post to see some photos:

https://www.marklin-user...Transformer-Problem.aspx

My advise would be to try and take the plastic cover off (as suggested in post) and then take it to a local electronic repair shop to see if they can do the repair for you?

Best Regards
Lasse
