Do you mean the new locomotives used distilled water instead of oil?

Yes, the new BR232 'Ludmilla's' use water instead of oil for 'smoke' generation.

I hope you have nothing on your layout that will rust - otherwise enjoy your new additions.

LOL Oil? Oh no, never! And yes a big problem was, Märklin did this not mention into their manuals for these locos first. People filled in regular water and up to 80% of this steam blast pipes got ruined. That Steven's steam pipes failed is not the exception, it is the regular case. By the way Märklin has now a big - say discussion - with the producer of these steam pipes, who is paying for these guarantee cases. Because the producer can proof that the failure of these pipes were a result of not using distilled water.

Probabely also the reason why the new Insider V 320 does not have these magnificent pipes. Indeed really not nice from Märklin. For 430 € I have expected these steaming blast pipes in a V 320 too.

this was my first thought to, over a period of time it must effect something, it doesn't matter whether it is distilled water, it is still water. if you have already humidity in your room why would you want to create more steam, I don't think Märklin has thought this through enough, especially with the middle contacts.

The requirement to use distilled water IS mentioned in the manuals - certainly in the manual of my yellow one.
