The "Grossmutter" is the nickname of another engine, the Ae 4/8 11300, which represented the prototype for the famous "Buchli Antrieb", a great success on the Ae 3/6' and Ae 4/7 and some others.
The correct nickname for the Ce 6/8' is "Köfferlilok", a reference (Koffer = Suitcase) to the small boxes on the engines' front with the walkway inbetween or, especially at Basel, where the engine was based from 1938-1967, "Schlotterbeck". 'schlottern' can be translated to 'trembling', which indeed is a reference to the running behaviour at slow speeds of this engine. 'Schlotterbeck' was the name of a big garage near the Basel depot, and this led to this nickname...

A super exciting announcement! Although at 580 euro I have to give up. I just can't bring myself to do it. As much as I want it, I think the only way it will happen is if there is literally nothing else in the Marklin or Roco catalogues that excite me.

The BE 4/6 variant sounds nice, but Roco makes a REALLY nice one I just bought new at a US dealer for under $200USD. If Marklin is charging $450-500 (I'm pretending it is less than the grossmutter), that still makes it a tough sell.

I am excited to see what car set they propose for it. Hopefully there is something exciting in there

Hello,

just a word to Brawa. Brawa never produced an engine. Brawa started with engines they received from Lifelike and afterwards they ordered stuff from China. Brawa has no tools to produce model railroads. They are only importing engines and coaches.

Only the first Koef, Marklin sold came from Brawa but even this engine was only produced for Brawa and not by Brawa.

The Märklin Köf came from China for many years (hence the zinkpest problems), so for many years it was produced for Märklin and not by Märklin. I don't know if it is made by Märklin now.
Many other items sold by Märklin are just made for Märklin.

Tom

Hello Tom,

not the first Koef which Marklin sold. This was the not lighted version and there were no zinkpest problems. You described the next edition, a complete other model and led-lighted.

As one who visited the Brawa factory some years ago I would refute the claim they have never produced there own locos.

I don't know if these can be classified as 2019 new items or not, but Märklin in the last week has released two new Gauge 1 'Jubilee' starter sets to mark the 50 year anniversary of the introduction of Gauge 1.

Item number 95021 - BR110 with 2 Silverfish coaches, an oval of track, and a CS3 with 100va power supply. Price is 2999.99 euros.

That they import 100% and don't own tools isn't necessarily true, unless changed in the last ~10 years. Ive got a copy of Loki magazine in front of me from 2008 (randomly, so this was funny timing), which shows tooling on racks at their German headquarters.

That is a big anniversary. The marketeer in me tells me they could do a series of anniversary crocs: Perhaps a tinplate replica of the original large scale crocs, a 3015 in retro packaging (despite all the similar models with different paint they haven't done this "original" yet...), and perhaps if the SBB is planning anything for the anniversary they can do a scale 1/87 variant to match the festivities.

And if they do nothing exciting, I will make 2019 a year of another croc projects I've been waiting to do:
- Converting a 3015 to digital
- Painting that same 3015 a fantasy color- I've wanted one in red or a nice blue forever. (This sounds like a collector nightmare, but the donor locomotive has destroyed paint so the project is no loss...)

Looking forward to seeing the new items...

Not on topic but, for John: I am about to do a 3015 (and a 3025) too in a few weeks using the ESU permanent magnet #51965, Lokpilot V4.0 and LED lights
Just want to run my 1948 to 1960 trains on the layout...I hate shelf-display case queens anyway!

Will keep you posted

Jacques

Jacques,

I assume you are referring to me: yes although I have so many locos some of them haven't seen the daylight for some years and on could say they are display models but when the layout is finished most of them will have a run.
regarding to your conversions (3015 & 3025) there are the ones who will crucify you (on other forums) for doing this with all sorts of explanations why you shouldn't convert a loco like this,
I've sold mine a few years ago not the 3015 but the one Märklin reproduced later (36159 = digital version) it was just to big in comparison to my Roco model but in hindsight I could have operated the loco as a solo. I still got one picture of my 3025 but this one was sold also after I had it restored by Georg Brockmann and later a ST 800 (lso restored but sold this one to), with my other conversions the critics had a field day TM 800, TP 800, 3003, 3027, 3024, 3011, 3014.

Ouch, I guess there won't be too many options for producing it in livery variations ...

Apart from Black with red hand rails for a Nurnberg Toy Fair Loco ...
And a green and brown pair for an anniversary ...
And ... Confused

At Euro 580.00, no, will I buy one: no, Am I exited: yes.
one shouldn't compare models with prices but a HAG BlS Re 4/4 I can buy a DC version around Euro 140.00 second hand and all I have to do is install a Sound decoder and led's, a Roco model DC (Analog) of the same type (new model) for Euro 200.00, a SBB Ae 4/7 also at a much cheaper price.
Has Germany's model train enthusiasts suddenly won in the lottery to afford a loco with a Euro 580.00 price tag or will this be the norm for 2019 and onwards ? and I wonder what the loco will fetch when its no longer available from the factory.

Unless you've just entered the model train hysteria but for some of us who have been around for a few years the prices are somewhat steep compared with the details we've experienced in the beginning of the 21st century and the details haven't changed that much., we are now entering the price of Fulgerex locos. are there anymore details available if the loco has 2 motors ?

John

And more interestingly, will there be a retrofit sound decoder that supports the new telex so that we might start converting our fleet of locomotives to be able to use the new telex system?

That price is almost identical to what North American dealers are asking for the 39242, so that just appears to be what top end Märklin locos are going for these days.

I agree that is quite expensive but I suspect that we can expect to see even more of this in the future. The 39241 and 39242 both sold out very quickly so I don't think Märklin will have a lot of incentive to offer their best models at more reasonable prices unless people stop buying them.
Regards,
Jim

I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
I have models from Era I to Era VI, but I try to focus on Eras I & III. Whoops, that one got away from me. Let's just say I focus on cool trains, regardless of the particulars :-)
So many trains and so little time.

Well, the crocodile required a software update in the decoder to drive the new telex, so I would expect that to be part of the CS2/CS3 update code due very shortly.

A bigger question is will the telex coupler itself be available in the new Items 2019 as an upgrade part. No good having the decoder ability without the hardware to rive it BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin

I read on Stummi (now they deleted the complete thread of 2019's novelties) that there will be a new steam engine for Switzerland.

The Elefant C6/6 has been done in 2 variants, the Eb 3/5 in 4 variants. It is possible make the following guess:
1) based on the collaboration in 2018 between Märklin and the Swiss Club Mikado 1244 (as a result Item 39364 Ae 6/6 Museumlok Aargau), we may see the steam engine Mikado 141R1244.
2) based on the already existing BR 52 mold, we may see the BR 52 221 from the club Vapeur Val-de-Travers.

let see that in 3 weeks, if i was wrong or not. BigGrin

Stephen, has there been any indication from Marklin as to when they will be releasing details of the 2019 Neuheiten?

On past performance I would expect that to be this Friday (11 January) or next Friday (18 January).

It would be aligned with the Nürnberg toy fair intro of new products I would expect so I'd expect nearer the end of January just before the Jan 30 start date, so maybe the 25th?

Historically that was the case but in more recent years it has been about a fortnight before the Toy Fair. I think this is more a case of admitting defeat because there were so many leaks of the brochure before hand that there was no reason to hold off.

Also the Hornby UK list is out now. I don't have a link for it yet, will try and find the guy who knows and get it tomorrow.

Has anyone checked Stummis to see if they have started their list of links to NI brochures for all the manufacturers yet?

Correct, that was my impression as well!

I often give a presentation of the new items to our club members at our club's January meeting. Last year's meeting was on the 26th, and the Neuheiten had come out at least a week before then.

Last year, Marklin announced the NH 2018 on Friday 12th January so the 2019 announcement should hopefully be out this Friday, 11 January, if they stick to the same schedule

Hello,

the Märklin shop MMC has officially announced on the homepage the presentation of the 2019 new items for friday 18.01.2019 in it's shop in Hamburg. So I expect the news on the net one week before, as already said here around the 11.01.

Personally I don't understand why the number of new items is a thing every year. It seems to be some kind of measurement on how great a company is (or sees itself, most likely). It seems to be what everybody says "look we have 300 new items, that's how great we are".

Yes, it is that and also the size (number of pages) of the main catalogue. Those can be used as Key Performance Indicators but it is really very few as a measure of what they are.
Some vendors has lots of articles in the catalogues and have very short runs of many items. The quality of the items is more subjective as it is being discussed.

Mostly Märklin H0.

I kind of had the feeling that the ICE would be expensive. At 700 Euro I have to pass.

Yeah, I suspect this is like the iPhone XS, where the company wants to extract the most money from those that it can, and may change the pricing on derivative models in coming years. Lets see what it can all do, ie sing and dance, to justify that price vs what an ICE2/3 does and costs.

At least being in the US, I can remove the 19% VAT, that helps a bit.

Yeah, the ICE 4 may be a full 7 unit or 12 unit train. Instead of a basic set with 4 wagons and then you have to buy an additional a bunch of add on sets to build a full consist. The latter is how PIKO does it. In the case of a full train, it might justify the price a bit. We'll see.

I think we have to wait and see what Märklin actually produces before we decide one way or the other on this.

If it is done to a higher level of detail and quality than some of the earlier ICE versions or is more technically interesting or more complete it might justify that price. If it is just a re-release of those earlier models IMO you would have to be insane to pay that much.

You pay your money and you take your choice. BigGrin

There's an extension set for the ICE4 (43724) and also an extra 2nd class coach (43725)!

So, not really a bargain train! But delivery is not until 2020 . . .

Who knows what Märklin prices will be like then, especially here in the UK?

Can someone remind me what, if any, implication or meaning is there in a kit having a 39xxx number vs a 37xxx number?

I would be surprised by that, because then folks who only have room for a shorter train would be forced to buy cars they have no use for.

Hello Minok,

somewhere you wrote you are understanding German. Here I found a thread from Stummi about the article numbers 37xxx and 39xxx. Hopefully it answers your question. I did not read that thread, but it looks like it is the motor inside.

CS 3 is a controller system from Märklin - not a central station.

Hm, that thread is only usefull for maybe older locomotives (pre 2012) when C-sine motors were still being used - the 39xxx series was where most of them ended up with a few exceptions. The thread says nothing about 37xxx/39xxx post 2012. However in the thread referenced in your thread reference there is the broader description, which doesn't go too much further though:

Quote:
[37xxx] = Triebfahrzeuge mit Digitaldekodern neueren Typs
[38xxx] = HAMO-MODELLE-Modelle für den 2L=Betrieb (neuere Modelle)
[39xxx] = unsprünglich Triebfahrzeuge mit CSinus-Motor, inzwischen wie [37xxx]
und da gibt es schon jede Menge Ausnahmen.

37xxx - with newer type digital decoders
39xxx - originally for c-sine motors, but has become like to 37xxx (and there are many exceptions)

So according to that thread, as near as I can tell, while there used to be a somewhat general indication of a difference in powertrain and/or decoder at this point (2018) there isn't any difference at all and 37xxx and 39xxx are just arbitrary numbers for new models. At least as far as that 2017 thread indicates.
