I found this item listed on ebay....

https://www.ebay.com/itm/113315911967 - MARKLIN MÄRKLIN 46512 FACTORY SAMPLE PROTOTYPE WURLITZER TANK WAGON np

Apart from the "interesting" colour scheme, there is also in the description "Factory Sample Prototype"

"This is a factory sample wagon by Marklin. Produced to try different variations for the marketing department."

I have not seen this before. If it were genuine, how did it get from the factory to this UK dealer?

And three of them, very similar but advertising different brands. Wurlitzer, Rock-Ola & Seeburg, all great names in Juke Boxes.

They caught my eye because I have a 70's Wurlitzer Jukebox, for that reason alone I was interested, but not at the asking price and I'm really not at all sure about that colour scheme?

A google search on "Marklin factory sample protype" shows images of other designs also.

Sorry for the quality of these two, these are google cached images, the ebay store no longer shows them available

Hi Cookee,

That dealer and his "prototypes" have been discussed here before. The wagons come from a large collection which had been auctioned in the UK about five years ago. Since that time he tries to sell these "prototypes". Just forget it. Not worth to discuss.

Regards

Ah yes, antiquetoys1, I wouldn't trust the description of 'Marklin prototype', I suspect it is more likely a repaint by someone else. Some of the stuff I have seen go through the auctions he has attended looked more like amateur repaints than Marklin originals.

Hi Alan, Markus, Well, that just goes to show that in just a few days of missing the forum, a whole set of topics can pass you by. I do not recall ever reading about antiquetoys1 nor the related Warwick & Warwick auction. And I like to think I'm a fairly regular reader here!!

Clearly, "must try harder" comes to mind. Sometimes the subject/title of the thread does not draw me in and there are not enough hours in the day to read everything just in case.

What particularly irks me though is the statement that the items I referred to above are clearly quoted as "Factory Sample Prototypes". Would he be prepared to back that statement up with any proof?, I guess I can be certain that any request for proof of that would probably result in a wall of silence or at best "this is what we were told by the course". Even if they were genuine, why, or how would Märklin even dispose of items like that? Doesn't make any sense.

So just in case anyone else missed them and is also interested, I've included a quick summary of some related threads about 'antiquetoys1'. Those who have read them before won't find anything new.

I've bought a few items from antiquetoys1 and have no problems with them.

As with all eBay purchases, look carefully at the descriptions and the photos and do a bit of research if the item is unusual.
