Hi,

I am considering this loco, want to know if there is a second decoder in the second loco, or just a motor. The manual doesn't show this.
Also, I will be converting to mSD3 decoder ( for DCC) and there is no motor sound listed for Dm in the motor sound list for the Decoder programmer software, so is there something on the list that is a close match?

Thanks for all help,

Don
Best Regards,
Don

I am still wondering about what is in the 2nd loco. I am pretty certain it is just a motor, and that the motor cables run perhaps through the 'permanent coupling' to the 1st loco decoder. Hoping an owner will chime in here...

Cheers,
Best Regards,
Don

Cheers,

I have only the triple units and you can see their insides in the Loco. I haven't opened all the units but there's no way there is a second decoder. I have never seen that in a permanently coupled double/triple Loco.

Follow the link and you will see the pictures I took when I opened up the Loco unit with the decoder.

Discussion about the DM3.

The description from Märklin says 2 motors, so I’m convinced there is one motor in each part. But only one decoder. The wiring for lights and motor has to be running through the bellow. The coupler is just plastic, not conducting
