Hello all
May I tap on the wisdom of the forum please?
I have a CS2 bought in June 2010. Throughout the years, I have used it on and off whenever I am in Singapore. I have never uploading any upgrades. I would like to try now using a USB stick.
What I am afraid of is that, given the abscence of periodic upgrades, would my CS2 find it hard to digest the latest upgrade? Would it sieze up (shutting my struggling Surinbahn) given that it still has the software that came from the factory ten years ago.
Any opinion, advice etc will be much appreciated.

Tom, I'm not totally familiar with the CS2 but what I've heard or read is uploading every update from the next version your CS 2 has.

Hi Tom

Not that I am a specialist but I have 2 CS2 that I update regularly since the begining (which is recommended).
I would give a try with an online update if you have a good internet connection.
Don't forget to set the IP in automatic mode and push the DHCP button. Be prepared for multiple reboots
Bonne chance

Jean

There is a point at which you need to update to an earlier than current one as they then changed the format of the download file. I'm not familiar with which update they introduced the new format, but you need to get the last update of the old format first, then the most recent update.

I would attempt to do the online update as suggested because I think you will find it will work this out for itself. However each update will still take an hour or so to do, even from a USB stick. But go online and just keep doing the updates it wants to do until it is up to the current one.

You need to specifically determine your current version.

If before v 3.6 proceed to the (german) download site
https://www.maerklin.de/...e/downloads/cs2-updates/

under section 2) USB-Stick update .....

and translate the pdf for pre-3.6 updating
https://www.maerklin.de/...2_update_Info_ab_3_6.pdf

be attentive to the intermediate steps - it is not a one step process.
once at 3.6 you may then proceed to do the later updates onlune.

FWIW. I have not totally bricked a CS2, even though there were times where the multi step updating was not completed as instructed

Tom,

do not be afraid about any software update, also it is with a controller software update of Märklin.

In the opposite of fruits, it does not get moldy.Smile It only gets technically overhauled. But this is corrected by another, further update.BigGrin

Do not know which software version your CS 2 has at the moment. Märklin published some files for explenations for its software updates for a CS 2.

http://streaming.maerkli...fo_above_3_6_english.pdf

http://streaming.maerkli...update_4_2_0_info-en.pdf

http://streaming.maerkli...e_CS_Updates_english.pdf

If you are a little bit familiar with the German language, perhaps you also risk a look at the German part of Märklins hompage for a CS 2 update. As very often by Märklin, the information at this part is more informative than the English one.

https://www.maerklin.de/...e/downloads/cs2-updates/

As Alan mentioned already (and even Märklin is writing it on its homepage) an update will last very long. And do not worry to try an update 2 or 3 times. Sometimes it is necessary by whatever reason.

P.S.:

Just found this thread here at marklin-users.net also about digital updating. Perhaps it helps you too.

I recently went through this with my fathers CS2.

He had never updated it either. The only important part which I did not know but has been posted here is you need to do the pre 3.6 update first.
