- WILL need a separate "TrackBox" (60113(grey) or 60116(black)) to replace the 24088
The 60113/6 is not connected to a piece of track, like the 24088. Instead it has two wires that may be plugged to a standard C-Track piece (actually a 24188)
You cannot have a Mobile Station (1) (60651/60652) controller connected via a 24088 to a layout at the same time as a Mobile station 2 via its "TrackBox"
The power socket is different (2.1mm v 2.5mm) between the 24088 and the 60113/6
for the US , the power supply Marklin provide for the 60113/6 is the 66365
In summary a MS2 will work with the set as long as you ALSO procure a track box and a matching power supply

Also wrong.
The original Mobile Station (60651 or 60652) requires either the 24088 (as is usually seen in the HO C-Track world) or the 60111 or 60115 Trackbox
(Both these TrackBoxes have two wires to feed the track, the only difference is the plug on the end)
The newer Mobile Station (60653(Grey) and it - colour difference only - successor 60657(Black)) will not work with the 24088,60111 or 60115.
These requires a 60112/3(Grey) or 60114/6.(Black)
Note Either Black/Grey MS2(60653/7) will work with either Grey/Black TrackBox (60112/3/4/6)
HOWEVER,
Both the Mobile Station (1) (60651/60652) and the Mobile Station (2) (60653/60657) WILL work as an auxiliary throttle when connected to a Central Station (60213, 60214, 60215) or Central Station 3(+) (60216/60226)
The Mobile Station (2) (60653/60657) will not work with the Central Station (60212)

* Disclaimer, the usage of 60651 and 60652 is very glib.
Most(sic) starter sets came with a device with 60652 stamped on the back - this was a 1.2Amp capable device
Marklin offered a separate product - the 60652 - which actually provided a device with 60651 stamped on the back. This was a 1.9Amp capable device.
Chances are that a repaired 1.2A device (and there were a lot) would actually get a 1.9A board, so it is insufficient to say that a device with 60652 on the back must be only 1.2A capable.
However, the power supply that shipped with most(sic) Starter sets could barely provide for 1.2A. Thus a larger power supply (or, yes, transformer) was needed.
As a rule of thumb,
- if the starter set came with a blackbox (66181) power adapter , then the MS(1) would be 1.2A capable (60652 on base).
- if the starter set came with a (60052/60055) transformer , then the MS(1) would be 1.9A capable (60651 on base).
