You can always search for a locomotive on the model Wiki by its road number, which will give you the manufacturer/model/year etc.

http://www.modellbau-wiki.de/wiki/Hauptseite

Normally road numbers are unique but interestingly for the BR 89 006 there was also one made by Fleischmann - though you can see its DRG and not DB.

I just type the producer (here Märklin) and the number on the loco (here 89006) into Google. Switch to "Pictures" at Google and you get plenty of them combined with many sources for finding.

Of course is the Modellbau Wiki another possibility, if you speak German. I only know a German version of it.

And sometimes there are very special informatins available.See

Yes Bill - welcome to the forum.

You will find an amazing depth of knowledge here and a lot of people who are eager to help. I don't think that I could have successfully gotten back into Märklin trains after so many years away from this hobby without the help that I have gotten here. Cool

You received some basic information about your models and good tips on finding out all manner of things about your locos online. BigGrin

I love my Märklin trains and I hope that you come to as well. And don't be afraid to ask questions on this forum because compared to many forums the people here are quite civilized and friendly. Cool
Regards,
Jim

I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time.
