Good morning everyone, I have a 3001 red loco which I would like to convert to to full digital.
I don't know which kit I need in order to do it.
Shall I get a Marklin kit at all ?

The lights are, as you may know, connected to the chassis of the loco.
The decoder is ok but I wanted to give it a go as I didn't have to buy a permanent magnet at the time.
Speed settings are non effective too.

I have also noticed that with the engine running at 'full' throttle the screen of my EcoS flickers, if I slow down it stops.

Could this be caused by the decoder that has no chokes ?

Thank you
Marco

Possible, but not too likely.

An easy way to digitize is to get an ancient Märklin 6080 that gives you only very basic digital function in the oldest (Märklin Motorola) format, but it will work.
One step further would be tams LD-W-32.2,
which allows you to digitize a locomotive without changing the motor connections, or Uhlenbrock 76200, which requires only minimal resoldering but is a bit of a current hog.

Other alternatives require a permanent magnet, like the ones from ESU (probably the 51961).
Then you have a large choice of decoders, and non-Märklin decoders are better documented if you want to tune in the motor regulation parameters.
