It's metal. I own one and am very pleased. Although analogue, it has adjustable acceleration and braking, along with a five-pole design motor.

3356 versions were also plastic bodied. When the 3352 brown version came out they had metal bodies. When the 3356 was replaced with the 3556 and 3656 these were also metal

I have check the Kolls book.

3056 (1976-81) have plastic body only.

3356 (1982-86) have plastic body but 3356 in metal body from 1986-1988.

I think Marklin change to metal body for crocodile from 1986.

Hi Steven,

3356 definitely never had a metal body. From 1986 until 1988 Märklin offered both versions: The 3356 (green) with plastic body and the 3352 (brown (first delivery 1987)) with metal body.

Edit: That's not fully correct. Read the next contribution.

Regards

Markus

Hello!

The set 3300 with Be 6/8 and BR 194 are first metal body.
And in 1995 the 3356 comeback with metal body and if I remember right Delta modul.

Bertil.

Thanks for all the info.

Next question...SBB crocs come in brown and green. Do these colours have a particular significance?

I stand to be corrected but I believe the brown colour is from an earlier period.

Yes I saw that and no I won't. They are significantly cheaper on Ebay DE even allowing for postage.

Missed one a few days ago...story of my life.

To be honest I'm really after a 3015 but just cannot justify the cost....which is another story of my life!

Thanks all for the info re brown/green.
