so 11 years ago I made a simple K83 tester:

http://cabin-layout.blogspot.com/2007/03/k83-tester.html

I looked at the page again today and it struck me that there is no diode in the circuit!

I can't recall if the output of the k83 is DC or if it is AC? if it is AC I would expect the LEDs to dislike the reverse current each cycle.

Anyone know?

A k83 (Marklin 6083,60830) "yellow" provides a pedestal -22V DC
(worth noting that the m83 (Marklin 60831,60832) provides -16V DC)

The Red and Green outputs switch/pulse to provide a path "down" (from Ground/0/Common )
(worth noting that the m83 uses a trickle/monitoring current which will appear to show the LEDs on in the non-energised state. thus you need a pull-up resistor to turn LEDs off fully)

Thus your LEDs will have their cathode (flat) towards the yellow.

OK thanks for confirming it is DC. I must have measured it and aligned the cathodes correctly!

I think you rpost is on the wrong thread.... but I always thought it allowed the customer to place the pole as far away from track center as needed, and they can then cut to whatever length is needed.

Hi Dale,

The most important things have been said above
On the Following link you can find the "Schaltplan" (electrical diagram) of a 6083
